Inferior Epigastric Veins
In human anatomy, inferior epigastric vein are 1-2 veins accompanying the inferior epigastric artery. They drain into the external iliac vein just proximal to the inguinal ligament. Superior Epigastric Vein
In human anatomy, the superior epigastric veins are two or more venae comitantes which accompany either superior epigastric artery before emptying into the internal thoracic vein. They participate in the drainage of the superior surface of the diaphragm. Structure Course The superior epigastric vein originates from the internal thoracic vein. The superior epigastric veins first run between the sternal margin and the costal margin of the diaphragm, then enter the rectus sheath. They run inferiorly, coursing superficially to the fibrous layer forming the posterior leaflet of the rectus sheath, and deep to the rectus abdominis muscle. The superior epigastric veins are venae comitantes of the superior epigastric artery, and mirror its course. Distribution The superior epigastric veins participate in the drainage of the superior surface of the diaphragm. Fate The superior epigastric veins drain into the internal thoracic vein. The external iliac veins are large veins that connect the femoral veins to the common iliac veins. Their origin is at the inferior margin of the inguinal ligaments and they terminate when they join the internal iliac veins (to form the common iliac veins). Both external iliac veins are accompanied along their course by external iliac arteries. Structure A continuation of the femoral vein, the external iliac vein starts at the level of the inguinal ligament. It runs beside its corresponding artery and along the brim of the lesser pelvis to unite with the internal iliac vein anterior to the sacroiliac joint where it forms the common iliac vein. The left external iliac vein remains medial to the artery along its whole path. The right external iliac vein is medial to the artery, but as it ascends, it runs posterior to it. In human anatomy, the inguinal triangle is a region of the abdominal wall. It is also known by the eponym Hesselbach's triangle, after Franz Kaspar Hesselbach. Structure It is defined by the following structures: * Medial border: Lateral margin of the rectus sheath. * Superolateral border: Inferior epigastric vessels. * Inferior border: Inguinal ligament.
