Industrial Techno
Industrial techno is a subgenre of techno and industrial dance music that originated in the 1990s. Characteristically, it incorporates influences from the bleak, noisy sound and aesthetics of early industrial music acts, particularly Cabaret Voltaire (band), Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. American industrial music label Wax Trax! Records, Wax Trax! also had a profound influence over the genre's development. History The origins of industrial techno date back to the early 1980s with the work of Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, then a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra. According to ''Fact (UK magazine), Fact'' and ''Louder Than War'', Sakamoto's solo album ''B-2 Unit'' (1980) anticipated the sounds of industrial techno. Techno
Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set, with tempos being in the range from 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm). The central rhythm is typically in common time ( ) and often characterized by a repetitive four on the floor beat. Artists may use electronic instruments such as drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers, as well as digital audio workstations. Drum machines from the 1980s such as Roland's Roland TR-808 and Roland TR-909 are highly prized, and software emulations of such retro instruments are popular in this style. Much of the instrumentation in techno is used to emphasize the role of rhythm over other musical aspects. Vocals and melodies are uncommon. The use of sound synthesis in developing distinctive timbres tends to feature more prominently. ''Louder Than War'' is a music and culture website and magazine focusing on mainly alternative arts news, reviews, and features. The site is an editorially independent publication that was started by the English musician and journalist John Robb in 2010 and is now co-run by a team of other journalists with a worldwide team of freelancers. There was a print edition from 2015 until 2020. The site is built around live reviews, album reviews and interviews. In 2012, ''Louder Than War'' launched a record label to promote and champion lesser known bands and artists. Surgeon (musician)
Anthony Child (born 1 May 1971), better known as Surgeon, is an English electronic musician and disc jockey, DJ. Child releases music on his own Record label, labels Counterbalance and Dynamic Tension. Established imprints, such as Tresor Records, Tresor, Soma Quality Recordings, Soma, and Harthouse, have also released Surgeon's original material and remixes. He has also been recognized as one of the first wave of DJs to use Ableton Live and Final Scratch to supplement his DJ sets. Biography Child grew up in Kislingbury, in Northamptonshire, England. In 1989, he moved to Birmingham to study audio-visual design, where he played in a jazz fusion, jazz/rock/fusion band called Blim, and learned to DJ from friend Paul Damage. Helena Hauff
Helena Hauff is a German DJ and record producer based in Hamburg, Germany. She is known for her "stripped-down techno and electro tracks" that are recorded using strictly analog equipment and draws influences from acid house, EBM and industrial music. Hauff, who has studied fine art, physics and systematic music science, previously worked as a DJ at Hamburg's Golden Pudel Club, where she hosted a night called Birds and Other Instruments. She released her debut record, ''Actio Reactio'' EP, in 2013. Following a series of releases from various different labels, including James Dean Brown's Hypnobeat record label, she released her debut full-length album, '' Discreet Desires'', through Werkdiscs records in 2015. Cut Hands
Cut Hands is a British electronic music project of William Bennett, formerly of the power electronics band Whitehouse. Cut Hands began in 2008, and its music is heavily inspired by African and Haitian Vodou music, characterized by its rhythmic and percussion-based style. Early history The project began when William Bennett was invited to DJ at Optimo, a large club in Glasgow. When he asked what they wanted him to play, they told him he could play whatever he wanted. At the time, he was very interested in the music of African culture, and thus he played ritual drumming music, mixed in with Haitian Vodou music. The name "Cut Hands" is a reference to the Whitehouse song "Cut Hands Has the Solution", which was from their 2003 album '' Bird Seed''. Blawan
Jamie Roberts, better known by his stage name Blawan, is an English DJ and record producer from South Yorkshire. He is best known for his track " Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" and his remix of the Radiohead track "Bloom", which appeared on their album'' TKOL RMX 1234567'' (2011). He came to prominence with his debut release ''Fram'' on the label Hessle Audio and signed to R&S Records. He also started a hardware-only project Karenn, with fellow R&S producer Pariah. Detroit techno is a type of techno music that generally includes the first techno productions by Detroit-based artists during the 1980s and early 1990s.
