Indra Adhikari
Indra Adhikari (or I. P. Adhikari) is a Bhutanese journalist in exile. He was the founder of Bhutan News Service. He was a former Bhutanese refugee, forced to leave Bhutan along with his family in 1992. He started ''The Shangrila Sandesh'' in 2001 but did not work for the paper for long. In 2004 he, along with Vidhyapati Mishra, started the Association of Press Freedom Activists (APFA) Bhutan. In 2007 they started Bhutan News Service. He worked in '' The Rising Nepal'', '' The Himalayan Times'', ''Nation Weekly'' and Nepalnews.com while living in Nepal as refugee. Adhikari also taught Journalism and Development Communication for bachelor's and master's degrees in College of Journalism and Mass Communication between 2006 and 2010. He then moved to Australia under the resettlement program of the UNHCR for Bhutanese Refugees. Bhutan
Bhutan (; dz, འབྲུག་ཡུལ་, Druk Yul ), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan,), is a landlocked country in South Asia. Bhutan News Service
Bhutan News Service (BNS) is an independent news agency run by Bhutanese refugee journalists since 2004 from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. It is solely operated by refugees who were mostly born or brought up in refugee camps and without previous media experience. When over 100,000 of Bhutanese refugees started taking shelter in UN-administered refugee camps of Jhapa and Morang districts in eastern part of Nepal, they felt the need for vocal media in the refugee community. Several failed attempts were made before the advent of the Bhutan News Service. The Bhutan News Service was founded in 2004 by a small group of Bhutanese refugee youth It emerged in as an alternative to traditional forms of media publications. ''The Rising Nepal'' is a Nepalese government-owned daily newspaper published by the Gorkhapatra Sansthan. It is a major English-language daily in Nepal. Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5UV) is Australia's first community radio station. The signal reaches across the Adelaide metropolitan area to the Mid North, the Yorke Peninsula and Fleurieu Peninsula, the southern Barossa, Kangaroo Island, Riverland and parts of the Eyre Peninsula broadcasting at 13 kilowatts on 101.5 MHz FM. Bhutanese Refugees
Bhutanese refugees are Lhotshampas ("southerners"), a group of Nepali language-speaking Bhutanese people. These refugees registered in refugee camps in eastern Nepal during the 1990s as Bhutanese citizens deported from Bhutan during the protest against oppressive measures of Bhutanese government by some of the Lhotshampas demanding human rights and democracy in Bhutan. As Nepal and Bhutan have yet to implement an agreement on repatriation, many Bhutanese refugees have since resettled to North America, Oceania and Europe under the auspices of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Many Lhotshampa also migrated to areas of West Bengal and Assam in India independently of the UNHCR.
