Indonesian Cinema
The cinema of Indonesia refers to films produced domestically in Indonesia. The statutory Indonesian Film Board, or BPI, defines Indonesian films as "movies that are made by or using Indonesian resources whose Intellectual Property Right is owned either entirely or partly by Indonesian citizen or Indonesian legal entity". Cinema in Indonesia dates back to the early 1900s. Until the 1920s, most cinemas in Indonesia were created by foreign studios, mostly from Europe and the United States, whose films would then be imported to the country. Most of these films were silent documentaries and feature films from France and the United States. Many documentaries about the nature and life of Indonesia were sponsored by the Dutch East Indies government, and were usually made by Dutch or Western European studios. Nike Ardilla
Raden Rara Nike Ratnadilla Kusnadi (27 December 1975 – 19 March 1995), better known as Nike Ardilla (), was an Indonesian singer and actress of Sundanese descent. Usually referred to as the Lady Rocker and the Queen of Rock by the Indonesian media, Nike was instrumental in the return of teen pop rock to the country's music scene and had a dominant presence during the first half of the 1990s. At the height of her career and fame in 1995, she was involved in a traffic incident that took her life at the age of 19 years, 2 months & 20 days. Her death prompted an outpouring of nationwide grief. The media regularly refers to the fact that she is the only musician in the country whose death continues to be mourned even after more than 25 years, and hailed by many as one of the most successful figures in Indonesia's entertainment industry. PT Graha Layar Prima Tbk ( d/b/a CGV Cinemas Indonesia; formerly BlitzMegaplex from 2006–2015 and CGV Blitz from 2015–2017) is a cinema chain in Indonesia. The chain was founded as ''BlitzMegaplex'' in October 2006. Today, it operates over 71 cinemas with 405 screens across 34 cities in Indonesia. PT Nusantara Sejahtera Raya Tbk trade name, doing business as Cinema 21 or 21 Cineplex is the largest cinema chain in Indonesia, serving 65 cities in the country. It was founded on 21 August 1987 as Studio Twenty One. Since its founding, 21 Cineplex has conducted some improvements and innovations, such as forming a cinema network with three separate brands to target different markets, namely Cinema 21, Cinema XXI and The Premiere. Some cinemas offer Dolby Atmos and IMAX. As of December 2024, it has 1,349 screens across 257 locations throughout Indonesia. Indonesian horror are fictions and films of the horror genre produced by the Indonesian film industry. Often inspired by local folklore and religious elements, Indonesian horror films have been produced in the country since the 1960s. After a hiatus during the Suharto era in the 1990s, when censorship affected production, Indonesian horror films continued being produced following ''Reformasi'' in 1998. On 21 May 1998, Suharto resigned as president of Indonesia following protests and riots across the country against his regime. His vice president, B. J. Habibie, took over the presidency. 1997 Asian Financial Crisis
The 1997 Asian financial crisis gripped much of East Asia, East and Southeast Asia during the late 1990s.
