Indiscreet (FM Album)
''Indiscreet'' is the debut album from Great Britain, British hard rock band FM (British band), FM. ''Indiscreet'' was originally released in 1986 on the Portrait Records label, a sister label of Epic Records. The song "Frozen Heart" became a moderately successful single. The song "That Girl" was covered by Iron Maiden as a B-side to their single "Stranger in a Strange Land (Iron Maiden song), Stranger in a Strange Land" following its inclusion in a live set by The Entire Population of Hackney (featuring Andy Barnett, erstwhile and future FM member and friend of Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith (musician), Adrian Smith). Written by Merv Goldsworthy, Pete Jupp and Andy Barnett in an early FM line-up, it was one of the demo songs which secured FM their record contract with Portrait/Epic in 1984. George Shilling
George Edward Shilling (born 1966 in Redbridge, London) is an English musician, record producer, composer and audio engineer. He is the son of Eric Shilling, formerly of the English National Opera and actress Erica Johns. He studied cello at the Royal College of Music and is best known as an audio engineer, a skill he was taught by Jerry Boys of Abbey Road and Livingston Recording Studios in London. Alan Moulder
Alan Moulder (born 11 June 1959) is an English record producer, mixing engineer, and audio engineer. Early life Moulder was born on 11 June 1959 in Boston, Lincolnshire. He was educated at Boston Grammar School. He had an interest in music from an early age, listing Cream and The Beatles among his favourite artists. The first album he bought was ''Electric Warrior'' by T. Rex, and he was impressed by the quality of the recording. He joined his first band as a teenager and recorded a demo in a local studio. During this time, he began to take interest in music production. Career Moulder's musical career started in the early 1980s at Trident Studios in London. As an assistant engineer, he worked with influential producers like Jean-Michel Jarre, drawing from them great familiarity with electronic sounds and textures. Steve Overland
Steve Overland is a British singer/musician who was the lead vocalist and songwriter for the bands Wildlife, FM, The Ladder, Shadowman, and his own group, Overland. Most recently he has collaborated with Fates Warning guitarist, Jim Matheos, in Kings of Mercia. History Overland's nearly 50-year career began in his home region of East Anglia, where he and his brother Chris formed the band Wildlife in 1980. The group were scouted by Adam Faith and soon signed to Chrysalis Records, who released the band's debut album, ''Burning'', in 1980. The band moved labels to the Led Zeppelin owned Swan Song Records for their 1983 self-titled follow up album, which featured Simon Kirke on drums. The band were also managed for a short period by Peter Grant. FM are a British rock band (referred to as FM UK in North America to avoid confusion with the Canadian progressive rock band FM). They have released fourteen studio albums to date. Three of those, '' Indiscreet'', '' Tough It Out'' and 2015's ''Heroes and Villains'' reached the UK Albums Chart, whilst five of the band's singles made inroads into the UK Singles Chart. Career FM was formed in the summer of 1984 in London. Adrian Smith (musician)
Adrian Frederick Smith (born 27 February 1957) is an English guitarist and singer best known as a member of Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Iron Maiden, for whom he also writes songs and performs backing vocals both live and in the studio. Smith grew up in London and became interested in rock music at 15. He soon formed a friendship with future Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray (musician), Dave Murray, who inspired him to take up the guitar. After leaving school at 16, he formed the band Urchin (band), Urchin, which he led until their demise in 1980. He joined Iron Maiden in November 1980, replacing Dennis Stratton. Following a short-lived solo project called ASAP (band), ASAP, he left Iron Maiden in 1990 and, after a year-long hiatus, formed the band The Untouchables which later became Psycho Motel. Andy Barnett
The Entire Population of Hackney is the name used for a supergroup project featuring members of Iron Maiden, FM and Urchin that played two concerts in December 1985. It is also the name used for a bootleg recording of the first show. It is most notable for being the spark that would lead to Adrian Smith forming his ASAP project later on and ultimately his split with Iron Maiden in 1990 (He returned in 1999 and has since remained a member of the band, although he has pursued other projects). It is also notable for leading to the first Iron Maiden recording without the current lead singer on lead vocals. Stranger In A Strange Land (Iron Maiden Song)
"Stranger in a Strange Land" is a song by the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released as the second single from their sixth studio album, '' Somewhere in Time'' (1986). The song is unrelated to Robert A. Heinlein's novel by the same name. Synopsis The lyrics are about an Arctic explorer who dies and is frozen in the ice. After a hundred years his body is found preserved by other people exploring the area. Adrian Smith was inspired to write about this song after talking to an explorer who had a similar experience while discovering the frozen body of Franklin Expedition participant John Torrington. The guitar solo in "Stranger in a Strange Land" is played by Smith.
