This is the list of independent radio stations. Included are any non-profit terrestrial broadcast community radio stations not directly affiliated, owned, or otherwise controlled by any radio network, school, company, or government. A nonprofit organization (NPO), also known as a nonbusiness entity, nonprofit institution, not-for-profit organization, or simply a nonprofit, is a non-governmental (private) legal entity organized and operated for a collective, public, or social benefit, as opposed to an entity that operates as a business aiming to generate a Profit (accounting), profit for its owners. CKRL-FM
CKRL-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Quebec City, Quebec. The station operates under a community radio licence and is owned by a non-profit group known as CKRL-MF 89,1 inc. It broadcasts on 89.1 MHz with an effective radiated power of 1,495 watts ( class A) using an omnidirectional antenna, broadcasting from Edifice Marie-Guyart in downtown Quebec City. CKRL-FM began broadcasting on February 15, 1973 at 5 p.m. and was originally a campus radio station for the Université Laval; this situation ceased in 1984, although the name of the corporation remained "Campus Laval FM inc." for many years thereafter. 94.3 CHYZ-FM became the new campus radio station of that university in 1997. CHLY-FM
CHLY-FM (101.7 MHz) is a non-profit campus-community radio station in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Primarily funded by students of Vancouver Island University's Nanaimo campus, the station is also supported by donations and memberships from the community, as well as local advertising, sponsorships and grants. CHLY-FM is run by the Radio Malaspina Society, an incorporated non-profit society. CHLY is a Class A station with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1,300 watts (3,000 watts maximum). CIVL-FM is a Canadian radio station located at the University of the Fraser Valley (Building S) in Abbotsford, British Columbia. More commonly known as ''CIVL Radio'', the station serves the Fraser Valley Regional District, specifically the surrounding communities of UFV in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission. CFRO-FM (100.5 MHz) is a non-commercial community radio station in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a legally registered co-operative and is branded as ''Co-op Radio''. It is owned by Vancouver Co-operative Radio, with studios and offices on Columbia Street off Hastings Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. CFML-FM
CFML-FM is the campus radio station of the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. History The station began broadcasting in January 1982 at 650 kHz on the AM band and on cable FM at 104.5 MHz. On October 26, 1984, the CRTC approved B.C.I.T. Radio Society's application to change CFML's frequency from 650 kHz to 940 kHz, as local station CISL swapped frequencies from 940 kHz to 650 kHz. The station first ran a Top 40/ CHR format, but later transitioned towards adult contemporary by 1986, and back towards Top 40 by the end of the decade. On March 7, 2006, the station began using the name ''Evolution 107.9 FM'' upon the launch of its new location on the FM dial at 107.9 MHz.
