Indian Ocean (band)
Indian Ocean is an Indian rock band formed in New Delhi in 1990, who are widely recognized as the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India. Susmit Sen, Asheem Chakravarty were band founding members until Chakravarty died on 25 December 2009, after which Tuheen Chakravorty and Himanshu Joshi were officially inducted into the band as successors. After the departure of Susmit Sen in 2013, Rahul Ram is the only member who appeared on the band's debut album Indian Ocean. Sanjeev Sharma has collaborated with them as lyricist on many albums. The musical style of the band can be best classified as jazz fusion. It is an experimental genre, fusing raga (traditional Indian tunes) with rock music, guitars and drums, sometimes using Indian folk songs. It has also been described by some music critics as "Indo-rock fusion with jazz-spiced rhythms that integrates shlokas, sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution". Jhini is the third studio album by the Indian Fusion band Indian Ocean recorded at Kosmic Studios in Varadeipalyam, Andhra Pradesh, in the midst of fields and hills, a hundred kilometres north of Chennai. The first performance of the Jhini track happened at the IIM Lucknow campus. ''Kandisa'' is the second studio album released by Indian fusion band Indian Ocean (band), Indian Ocean in March 2000. It went on to become one of the best-loved albums produced in India. ''Kandisa'' acquired cult status and propelled Indian Ocean into the status of one of India's most original and creative bands. The band left Indian shores for the first time ever in August 2001. They played their first concert abroad in London, and then went on to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where they played 18 concerts in 14 days, and were nominated the Pick of the Fringe. ''Desert Rain'' is the second album of Indian Ocean and the first live album ever to be released by any Indian band recorded by Vikram Mishra. Saregama India Ltd is an Indian music record label and content company headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. It is the oldest music label in India, established in 1901 as the Indian branch of the British Gramophone Company.
