Independent Network News (Ireland)
Independent Network News (INN) was the agency that supplied national and international news to 30 independent local radio stations in Ireland. INN supplied copy and audio service from its central Dublin studios via satellite, in addition to hourly news and sport bulletins that were broadcast weeknights and weekends. History The organisation was set up in July 1997 to replace two rival networks, FM104's Network Radio News, and Ireland Radio News (IRN), which was operated by 98FM. IRN came into being in November 1991 when the previous national news service - operated by Ireland's first national commercial radio station, Century Radio - was discontinued following Century's collapse. The principal promoter behind INN was Andrew Hanlon, formerly of 98fm, who went on to become a founding director of TV3 one year after the launch of INN. 98FM is a local radio station in Dublin, Ireland, operated by Bauer Media Audio Ireland, under a sound broadcasting contract from Coimisiún na Meán. The station broadcasts on the 98.1 MHz FM frequency. 98FM's broadcast antenna is located on Three Rock Mountain, County Dublin at 5 kW, and can be heard in Dublin and neighbouring counties. 98FM also has a relay in north County Dublin, broadcasting on 97.4 MHz. Century Radio
Century Radio, also known as ''Century 100'' and later ''Century FM'', was a short-lived national commercial radio station in the Republic of Ireland, broadcasting from 4 September 1989 to 19 November 1991. History Launch Launched at 8am on Monday 4 September 1989, Century Radio was intended as the first licensed alternative to RTÉ Radio 1 within the Republic of Ireland and the country's first national commercial station. The first song played on the station was ''Pride (In the Name of Love)'' by U2. The national licence was issued in an effort to kill off pirate radio in the Republic of Ireland, but full coverage was only achieved in early 1990. It later emerged that Century's licence was issued illegally, as the then Minister for Communications, Ray Burke, received a bribe in the region of IR£100,000 to issue the licence.
