The Independent Moving Pictures Company (IMP) was a motion picture studio and production company founded in 1909 by Carl Laemmle. The company was based in New York City, with production facilities in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1912, IMP merged with several other production companies to form Universal Film Manufacturing Company, later renamed Universal Pictures Company with Laemmle as president. William Fox (producer)
Wilhelm Fried Fuchs (; January 1, 1879 – May 8, 1952), commonly known as William Fox, was a Hungarian Americans, Hungarian-American film industry executive who founded the Fox Film, Fox Film Corporation in 1915 and the Fox Theatres, Fox West Coast Theatres chain in the 1920s. Harry E. Aitken (October 4, 1877August 1, 1956) was an American film studio executive and producer. Life He was born on October 4, 1877. He grew up on a family farm near Goerke's Corners, Wisconsin. The brothers operated Keystone Studios and eventually Harry became a partner in the Mutual Film Company. Along with his brother Roy Aitken (1882–1978), he helped pioneer the production and distribution of movies during the early silent film era in the United States. In 1906 they founded the Western Film Exchange with John R. Freuler. They moved to California in 1908 and in 1912 founded the Mutual distribution company. The star system was the method of creating, promoting and exploiting stars in Hollywood films from the 1920s until the 1960s. Movie studios selected promising young actors and glamorised and created personas for them, often inventing new names and even new backgrounds. Examples of stars who went through the star system include Cary Grant (born Archibald Leach), Joan Crawford (born Lucille Fay LeSueur), and Rock Hudson (born Roy Harold Scherer, Jr.). Information given in billing usually consists of the companies, actors, directors, producers, and other crew members.
