Independence Monument (Ukraine)
The Independence Monument () is a victory column located on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv, commemorating the independence of Ukraine in 1991. Stylistically, it presents a mix of Ukrainian Baroque and Empire style. The monument was built in the center of the square for the 10th anniversary of the independence in 2001. The monument itself is a column with a figurine of a woman ( Berehynia) with guelder-rose branch in her hand. The height of the monument is . Maidan Nezalezhnosti (, ) or Independence Square is the central town square of Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. One of the city's main squares, it is located on Khreshchatyk Street in the Shevchenko Raion. The square contains the iconic Independence Monument. In the 19th century, the square contained buildings of the city council and noble assembly. The Monument to the Magdeburg Rights () is a monument commemorating the return to Kyiv of its Magdeburg rights, which granted its right to self-government. It is located in Podil Raion, Kyiv, at the foothills of the historical St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, St. Michael's Hill, next to the Naberezhne Highway.
