''In Prison Awaiting Trial'' () is a 1971 Italian drama film directed by Nanni Loy. It was entered into the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival where Alberto Sordi won the Silver Bear for Best Actor award. Plot Roman surveyor Giuseppe Di Noi, who has emigrated in Sweden marrying a local woman and becoming a respected citizen, decides to take his family on holiday in Italy. At the Italian border he is stopped and arrested without explanation. After three days in jail in Milan, he learns – through the efforts of a guard – that he has been charged with "involuntary manslaughter" of a German citizen. Having ignored the arrest warrant (as he lived abroad) Giuseppe is deemed a "fugitive" and thus ineligible for house arrest; he is instead transferred from prison to prison until he reaches the imaginary town of Sagunto (near Salerno), where he gets placed in solitary confinement. Nanni Loy
Nanni Loy (born Giovanni Loi; 23 October 1925 – 21 August 1995) was an Italian film, theatre and TV director. Specifically, Nanni Loy was Sardinian people, Sardinian, and one of several notable Sardinian film makers, including Franco Solinas. Biography Loy was born in Cagliari, Sardinia: his father was Guglielmo Loy-Donà, a lawyer issue from a distinguished Sardinian-Venetian family, and his mother was the noblewoman Donna Anna Sanjust of the Marquesses of Neoneli. Rosetta Loy, an Italian novelist, is his sister-in-law. He became famous for introducing in Italy the ''Candid Camera, candid camera'' with his show ''Specchio segreto'' (Secret mirror) in 1965. Mario Brega (25 March 1923 – 23 July 1994) was an Italian character actor. His heavy build meant that he regularly portrayed a thug in his films, particularly earlier in his career in westerns. Silvio Spaccesi (1 August 1926 – 2 June 2015) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Macerata, Spaccesi studied in a Salesians of Don Bosco School, and made his official theatrical debut with the stage company held by Angelo Perugini. Gianfelice "Gianni" Bonagura (27 October 1925 – 8 October 2017) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Milan, Bonagura was active on film, stage, television and radio. Michele Gammino (born 16 June 1941) is an Italian actor, voice actor and television presenter.
