''In Old Mexico'' is a 1938 American Western film directed by Edward D. Venturini and written by Harrison Jacobs. The film stars William Boyd, George "Gabby" Hayes, Russell Hayden, Paul Sutton, Al Ernest Garcia, Jan Clayton and Trevor Bardette. The film was released on September 9, 1938, by Paramount Pictures. Plot Hoppy ( William Boyd) and his pals must journey to Mexico after receiving a summons. Upon arrival, they realize that it was fake and that a good friend has been mysteriously murdered. They solve the puzzle with the assistance of the killer's feisty sister and a band of helpful caballeros. Hopalong Cassidy Films
From 1935 to 1948, 66 American Western films were produced featuring the character Hopalong Cassidy, played in all the films by actor William Boyd. The films were at the time collectively known as "Hoppies". In the films, Hopalong, or "Hoppy", and his white horse, Topper, travel through the Old West while dispensing justice, usually with two companions: one young and trouble-prone with a weakness for damsels in distress, the other older, comically awkward and outspoken. The juvenile lead was successively played by James Ellison, Russell Hayden, Jay Kirby, George Reeves, Rand Brooks, and Jimmy Rogers. Philippine Amann (10 March 1905 – 2 or 3 August 1990), known professionally as Betty Amann, was an American film actress. Born to American parents in the German Empire, she began her acting career in the United States with the film ''The Kick-Off'' (1926). She is perhaps best known for her role in ''Asphalt'' (1929). Hopalong Cassidy
Hopalong Cassidy is a fictional cowboy hero created in 1904 by the author Clarence E. Mulford, who wrote a series of short stories and novels based on the character. Mulford portrayed the character as rude, dangerous, and rough-talking. He was shot in the leg during a gun fight, causing him to walk with a little "hop", hence the nickname. From the 1930s to the 1950s, the character became indelibly associated with actor William Boyd, who portrayed Cassidy first in a series of sixty-six films from 1935 to 1948, then in children-oriented radio and TV series, both of which lasted until 1952.
