In Camera (band)
In Camera were an English post-punk group, comprising David Steiner (vocals, keyboards), Andrew Gray (guitar), Pete Moore (bass), and Jeff Wilmott (drums), formed in London in 1978 and signed to the 4AD label. The band split in 1981 after releasing only one single and two EPs (the final one being released posthumously). Background The seeds of the group were sown when youthful drummer Jeff Wilmott introduced aspiring bass guitar player Pete Moore to singer David Steiner; through this nucleus the addition of guitarist Andrew Gray became possible. After an incendiary performance at 'Billy's' in Soho, London opening for Bauhaus, In Camera were signed by that group's record label, 4AD. In Camera released a 7" single, "Final Achievement"/"Die Laughing" in June 1980, followed six months later by the four-track EP ''IV Songs''. Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of music that emerged in late 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians departed from punk's fundamental elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a broader, more experimental approach that encompassed a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. The Wolfgang Press
The Wolfgang Press are an English post-punk band, originally active from 1983 to 1995. The core of the band during that era was Michael Allen (vocals, bass), Mark Cox (keyboards), and Andrew Gray (guitar). They reformed in 2024 with Stephen Gray, brother of Andrew, replacing Cox, to release a new LP titled "A 2nd Shape" on Downwards Records. The group is best known for its 1992 international hit single "A Girl Like You". Style and influences The official 4AD band profile describes them as "post-punk", transforming to "avant-dance groovers" with ''Queer''. The group were frequently labelled "goth," though they denied the charge. Soho
SoHo, short for "South of Houston Street, Houston Street", is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Bauhaus (band)
Bauhaus are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and gloomy sound, Bauhaus are one of the pioneers of gothic rock, although they mixed many genres, including dub reggae, dub, glam rock, psychedelic music, psychedelia, and funk. The group consisted of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (musician), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), better known as John Peel, was an English radio presenter and journalist. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. It was started to facilitate musicians looking to pre-sell, market, and distribute projects, such as recordings and concerts.
