In-ovo Sexing
In poultry farming, in-ovo sexing is a chick sexing method carried out while chicks are still in ovo (Latin for "inside the egg"). There are various methods to determine a chick's sex in the 21-day incubation period before it hatches. In-ovo sexing technology has branched into two categories, DNA based and Image based. The first technology to be successfully commercially introduced for poultry farming was bio-marker detection through the Dutch–German companSeleggtin November 2018. Auto-sexing
Auto-sexing breeds of poultry are those in which the sex of newly-hatched chicks can be determined from the colour and markings of the down (feather), down. Some breeds of chicken, of domestic goose, goose and of domestic pigeon have this characteristic. The idea of such a breed is due to Reginald Punnett, who created the first auto-sexing chicken breed, the Cambar, at the Genetical Institute in Cambridge in 1928. Lawrence A. MacAulay (born September 9, 1946) is a Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Cardigan, Prince Edward Island in the House of Commons from 1988 until 2025.
