Previously Gävert had overseen Grand Recordings, a sub-label of Virgin, and Bohman worked for the Scandinavian branch of Zomba Records. To help raise funds for the project the pair did consultancy work, and Gävert sold a part of his record collection and Bohman his car. The original idea for the label was an independent focused on Sweden and Nordic territories but that "had an eye" on the world market. José González (singer)
José Gabriel González (born 31 July 1978) is a Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter and guitarist from Gothenburg. González is also a member of the band Junip, along with Tobias Winterkorn. Early life and education The González family – made up of González's father, a National University of San Luis psychology student, González's mother, a fellow student studying biochemistry, both of whom were politically active, and González's older sister, then an infant – fled Argentina after the military coup d'état in March 1976, at the start of the "Dirty War". Escaping to Brazil, they were granted asylum by the Swedish consulate in Rio de Janeiro, and relocated to Gothenburg in 1977. José was born a year later, in the Haga district of Gothenburg. Melpo has played many cities, from New York City to Paris, and has shared the stage with Bon Iver, Loney Dear, José González, and more. In 2012 Melpo put out ''Behind The Trees'', which he released independently via Redeye Distribution. This album was featured on iTunes in the Indie Spotlight and Singer/Songwriter sections, as well as featured on Spinner in their home page "Listening Party" section. The single "We Should Be Walking" received airplay on numerous college and specialty radio stations, leading him to chart at #9 in the SubModern Singles chart and was featured in an episode of ABC's The Middle.
