Imperial Court (Freemasonry)
The Imperial Court organization serves as the female auxiliary to the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, the Prince Hall affiliated Shriners. The group previously used the name Daughters of Isis. History Local groups of the Imperial Court were founded by African American women in the early years of the twentieth century in Maryland, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C. In 1909, representatives of these locals met with a committee from the Prince Hall Shriners and formally requested the formation of a national organization of female relatives of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. The establishment was approved at the annual convention of the Shrine held in Detroit, Michigan, on August 24, 1910. At the group's inception, it had twelve local chapters. Isis
Isis was a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion whose worship spread throughout the Greco-Roman world. Isis was first mentioned in the Old Kingdom () as one of the main characters of the Osiris myth, in which she resurrects her slain brother and husband, the divine king Osiris, and produces and protects his heir, Horus. She was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife as she had helped Osiris, and she was considered the divine mother of the pharaoh, who was likened to Horus. Her maternal aid was invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. Originally, she played a limited role in royal rituals and temple rites, although she was more prominent in funerary practices and magical texts. Block Communications Inc. (also known as Blade Communications) is an American privately held holding company of various assets, mainly in the print and broadcast media, based in Toledo, Ohio. The company was founded in 1900 in New York City when Paul Block, a German-Jewish immigrant who came to the United States in 1885, formed an ad representation firm for newspapers. The Block empire grew to encompass many newspapers on the east coast of the US, however with the Great Depression in the 1930s came the loss of all but three properties: the ad representation firm, the ''Pittsburgh Post-Gazette'', and the Toledo ''Blade'' (where Block eventually settled the company upon its purchase in 1927). David Ross Locke gained national fame for the paper during the Civil War era by writing under the pen name Petroleum V. Nasby.
