Impasto (pottery)
Impasto is a type of coarse Etruscan civilization, Etruscan pottery. The defining characteristic is that the clay contains chips of mica or stone.Nigel Spivey, ''Etruscan Art'', page 35 In G.A. Mansuelli's, ''The Art of Etruria and Early Rome'' (1964), the term "impasto pottery" is described in the following way: "Ceramic technique characteristic of hand-worked vases. Mica
Micas ( ) are a group of silicate minerals whose outstanding physical characteristic is that individual mica crystals can easily be split into fragile elastic plates. This characteristic is described as ''perfect basal cleavage''. Mica is common in igneous and metamorphic rock and is occasionally found as small flakes in sedimentary rock. It is particularly prominent in many granites, pegmatites, and schists, and "books" (large individual crystals) of mica several feet across have been found in some pegmatites. Bucchero
Bucchero () is a class of ceramics produced in central Italy by the region's pre-Roman Etruscan population. This Italian word is derived from the Latin ''poculum'', a drinking-vessel, perhaps through the Spanish ''búcaro'', or the Portuguese ''púcaro''.Nicola Zingarelli, Vocabolario della Lingua Italiana, 2011.
