Immigrant Food is a fast-casual restaurant located at 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. It was founded by chef Enrique Limardo, Téa Ivanovic, Peter Schechter, and Ezequiel Vázquez-Ger, and opened on November 12, 2019. Located near the White House, the restaurant combines its food offerings with pro-immigrant activism. Immigrant Food serves fusion cuisine from China, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and other countries. Its menu is prepared by Limardo. The restaurant engages in what they refer to as "gastroadvocacy", accepting donations and signing up volunteers, as well as working as a hub for non-profits to host events helping immigrants find jobs and learn English. Peter Schechter (born 1959) is an American political consultant and the executive producer and host of Altamar, a foreign policy podcast. Until June 2017, he was the Atlantic Council's Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and the founding director of the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, a Washington-based think tank launched in October 2013 to study the trends transforming Latin America. Born in 1959 in Rome, Schechter first came to the US when he was 16, then spent several years in Bolivia and Venezuela before returning to the US to settle in Washington. Planet Word is a language arts museum that opened in Washington, DC, in October 2020. The museum is described as "The museum where language comes to life" and features interactive exhibits dedicated to topics such as the history of the English Language, how children learn words, languages around the world, humor, poetry, and how music and advertising use words.
