Il Discotto Records
Il Discotto Productions was the second biggest Italo disco record label and distribution company. It was founded in 1982, and managed by Roberto Fusar-Poli. The company started in Sesto San Giovanni, and then moved to Cologno Monzese in 1983, two towns in the Greater Milan area. It was one of the most successful Italian labels of the 1980s, rivaling with Discomagic. Discotto released material by many well-known artists like Gary Low, Scotch, Doctor's Cat, Brand Image, Gazebo, Martinelli, Paul Sharada, Betty Miranda, Reeds, Mike Rogers, Raggio Di Luna, Hot Cold, Eugene, Max Coveri Massimo Brancaccio, also known by the stage names Billy More and Max Coveri (3 February 1965 – 14 August 2005), was an Italian drag queen and music artist based in Milan. Cologno Monzese
Cologno Monzese ( lmo, label= Milanese, Cològn ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Milan in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about northeast of Milan. The population increased substantially after World War II, when many people from Southern Italy settled here (especially from Apulia). After being subject for a long time to the influence exerted by San Maurizio al Lambro (which is now part of the municipality as a hamlet) Cologno received the honorary title of city with a presidential decree on September 19, 1996. Martinelli (band)
Martinelli was a music project of Italian record producer Aldo Martinelli (producer of such italo-disco bands as Scotch and Raggio Di Luna/Moon Ray) and American singer Simona Zanini. They had their biggest hit with the song "Cenerentola" (1985), which was a hit across Europe, reaching number 8 in West Germany, number 5 in Austria, number 6 in Switzerland and number 5 in France. Max Coveri
Massimo Brancaccio, also known by the stage names Billy More and Max Coveri (3 February 1965 – 14 August 2005), was an Italian drag queen and music artist based in Milan. Biography Brancaccio first started out as an Italo disco singer in the 1980s, performing several songs under the Max Coveri alias (which was originally used by Mauro Farina and later by Maurizio De Jorio), as well as being the model. The Billy More project began when Brancaccio met Roberto Santini (RSDJ), a disc jockey in Zip Club, Milan. The actual vocalist of Billy More's songs is John Biancale. Billy More's first single, "Up & Down (Do not Fall in Love with Me)", released in 2000, reached #5 in the Italian music chart, #14 in the Austrian music chart, and #21 in the German music chart. Italo Disco
Italo disco (variously capitalized, and sometimes hyphenated as Italo-disco) is a music genre which originated in Italy in the late 1970s and was mainly produced in the early 1980s. Italo disco evolved from the then-current underground dance, pop, and electronic music, both domestic and foreign (American hi-NRG, French Euro disco) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employs electronic drums, drum machines, synthesizers, and occasionally vocoders. It is usually sung in English, and to a lesser extent in Italian and Spanish. The origin of the genre's name is strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982. Italo disco faded in the early 1990s and then split into many genres ( Eurobeat, Italo house, Italo dance). Scotch (band)
Scotch were an Italian Italo disco band, formed in Bergamo in 1982, that comprised Vince Lancini, Fabio Margutti, Franz Rome, Franz Felleti and Manlio Cangelli. History Scotch was created by David Zambelli and Walter Verdi, both record producers from Bergamo. The group's first success was "Penguins' Invasion", written by Manlio Cangelli. "Penguins' Invasion" was an instrumental piece. About three months after its release, it was decided to create a vocal version and Vince Lancini was chosen as singer. Later he joined the group with Fabio Margutti and Vince Lancini. Among their most known tracks are " Take Me Up", " Disco Band", "Mirage", " Delirio Mind", "Penguins' Invasion", "Evolution", "Plus Plus", "Money Runner", "Pictures" and "Man to Man".
