''Ihsahn'' is the eighth studio album by Norwegian black metal musician Ihsahn. It was released on 16 February 2024 through Candlelight Records and was self-produced by Ihsahn. Critical reception The album received acclaim from critics. Jay H. Gorania from Blabbermouth.net gave the album 8.5 out of 10 and said: "There is no doubt that Ihsahn is one of metal's leading imaginative forces, and this self-titled release is possibly his solo career's high point." Dan McHugh of ''Distorted Sound'' scored the album 9 out of 10 and called the album "bold, adventurous and extravagantly experimental and this deserves the utmost applause." Vegard Sverre Tveitan (born 10 October 1975), better known by his stage name Ihsahn ( ), is a Norwegian musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and composer who is best known for his work with the black metal band Emperor (Norwegian band), Emperor. Tveitan is also a founding member of Thou Shalt Suffer, where he played guitar and keyboard in addition to vocal duties, and Peccatum, a project in collaboration with his wife and fellow musician Starofash, Heidi Solberg Tveitan, also known as Starofash. Since 2006, Tveitan has primarily devoted himself to solo albums and occasional guest appearances. Beyond the characteristics typically associated with metal music, Tveitan's musical style also includes Classical music, classical, Industrial music, industrial, and Progressive music, progressive elements. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter. Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music.
