Igboid Languages
Igboid languages constitute a branch of the Volta–Niger language family. Kay Williamson, Williamson and Roger Blench, Blench conclude that the Igboid languages form a "language cluster" that are somewhat mutually intelligible. Niger River
The Niger River ( ; ) is the main river of West Africa, extending about . Its drainage basin is in area. Its source is in the Guinea Highlands in south-eastern Guinea near the Sierra Leone border. It runs in a crescent shape through Mali, Niger, on the border with Benin and then through Nigeria, discharging through a massive River delta, delta, known as the Niger Delta, into the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. The Niger is the third-longest river in Africa, exceeded by the Nile and the Congo River. Its main tributary is the Benue River. Delta State
Delta is a States of Nigeria, state in the South South (Nigeria), South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Ekpeye Language
Ekpeye language is one of many Igbo dialects spoken in Rivers State, Nigeria. According to Roger Blench, Ekpeye is classified as an Igboid language. The Ogba and Ikwerre dialects are closely related to Ekpeye. Ogbah Language
Ogba (also Olu Ogba, mobu onu Ogbah) is an Igboid language spoken by Ogba people of Nigeria mostly in River State. They are part of the Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area in Rivers State. The king is referred to as the Eze-ogba and was politically influenced to change the title as 'Oba' just as the Benin's refer to theirs. Annually they celebrate the 'Egwu ogba' festival. Ikwere Language
Ikwerre (Iwhuruohna) is a language spoken primarily by the Ikwerre people, who inhabit certain areas of Rivers State, Nigeria. Classification The Ikwerre language is a member of the Volta-Niger branch of Niger-Congo family of languages. Based on lexicostatistical analysis, Kay Williamson first asserted that the Ikwerre, Ekpeye, and Ogba, languages belonged to the same language cluster, and were not dialects. After subsequent studies and more research by both Williamson and Roger Blench, it was concluded that lexical similar languages like Ikwerre, Ogba, Igbo and Ekpeye form a "language cluster" and that they are somewhat mutually intelligible.
