''If the Stars Had a Sound'' is a 2024 biographical film that focuses on the career of Scottish rock band Mogwai, and was directed by Antony Crook. After showings at SXSW in March 2024, and at various film festivals, it was released in UK and Ireland cinemas for a one-night showing on 19 November 2024, and will be released theatrically in the US to coincide with the band's tour there in 2025. The film was nominated for "Best Documentary Feature" at the 2024 Raindance Film Festival. The title of the film is taken from part of a spoken sample that opens " Yes! I Am a Long Way from Home", the first track on the band's debut album. Mogwai () are a Scottish post-rock band, formed in 1995 in Glasgow. The band consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums). Mogwai typically compose lengthy guitar-based instrumental pieces that feature dynamics (music), dynamic contrast, melodic bass guitar lines, and heavy use of Audio distortion, distortion and effects unit, effects. My Father My King
"My Father My King" is a song by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, which was released as a single in October 2001. Over 20 minutes long, and billed as a companion piece to the album '' Rock Action'', a sticker on the cover of the single describes it as "two parts serenity and one part death metal". The song is regularly used to end Mogwai concerts – most recently, in 2015, it was the finale of all six of the band's 20th anniversary shows – and was often extended in length. Overview and recording The song is based on the melody from ''Avinu Malkeinu'', a Jewish prayer recited on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and certain fast days, the melody of which had been taught to the band by producer Arthur Baker. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures. Tramway (arts Centre)
Tramway is a contemporary visual and performing arts venue located in the Scottish city of Glasgow. Based in a former tram depot in the Pollokshields area of the South Side, it consists of two performance spaces and two galleries, as well as offering facilities for community and artistic projects.
