Idomeni
Idomeni or Eidomeni (, ) is a small village in Greece, near the border with North Macedonia. The village is located in the municipality of Paionia (municipality), Paeonia, Kilkis (regional unit), Kilkis regional unit of Central Macedonia, Central Macedonia (Greece). The village is built at an elevation of 65 meters, in the outskirts of Kouri hill. It mounts in the west bank of Vardar, Axios river, close to the border with Republic of North Macedonia. The village is interwoven with a railway station, which is the first railway station that someone meets entering Greece from the north. History Eidomene is mentioned by Strabo at his work ''Geographica'' and by Thucydides at his work ''History of the Peloponnesian War''. Amphilochian Argos (, ) was the chief town of ancient Amphilochia, situated at the eastern extremity of the Ambraciot Gulf, on the river Inachus. Its territory was called Argeia (Ἀργεία). Foundation legend Its inhabitants laid claim to their city having been colonized from the celebrated Argos in Peloponnesus, though the legends of its foundation somewhat differed. It was, according to one tradition, founded by Amphilochus, son of Amphiaraüs, after the Trojan War. Amphilochus, being dissatisfied with the state of things in Argos on his return from Troy, emigrated from his native place, and founded a city of the same name on the Ambraciot Gulf and the whole region of Amphilochia. According to another tradition, it was founded by Alcmaeon, who called it after his brother Amphilochus.
