Ida Swinburne
Ida Swinburne (2 December 1899 – 1984), later Steuart, was a British documentary film producer and Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Party politician. Background Ida Swinburne was born in 1899''London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813–1923'' in Paddington, London, the eldest daughter of Sir James Swinburne, 9th Baronet, F.R.S., of Inverness-shire and Lilian Gilchrist Carey. She had two older half-brothers, Anthony Swinburne and Sir Spearman Charles Swinburne, 10th Baronet, Spearman Charles Swinburne and a younger sister, Marjorie Swinburne. She lived with her parents in East Surrey for 20 years. She was educated at Irwin House and the Manor House, Limpsfield. In July 1929 she married Douglas Ronald Stuart Spens Steuart. They moved to Bramham Gardens, in South West London. They divorced in 1945. She then married in July 1945, Cmdr. Daniel Harvey Rainier, DSC, RN. Eighty Club
The Eighty Club was a political London gentlemen's club named after the year it was founded, 1880 (much like the later 1900 Club and 1920 Club). It was strictly aligned to the Liberal Party, with members having to pledge support to join. Somewhat dwarfed by mass-membership clubs like the National Liberal Club, it could only claim 400 members in 1890, and 600 by 1900. H. H. Asquith was the first secretary of the Eighty Club and David Lloyd George was sometime President. 1929 United Kingdom General Election
The 1929 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 30 May 1929, with Parliament dissolved on 10 May. It resulted in a hung parliament: despite receiving fewer votes than the Conservative Party, led by Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, Ramsay MacDonald's Labour Party won the most seats in the House of Commons, with the Liberal Party, led again by former Prime Minister David Lloyd George, regaining some of the ground lost in 1924 and holding the balance of power. The election was often referred to as the " Flapper Election", because it was the first in which women aged 21–29 had the right to vote (owing to the Representation of the People Act 1928). Women over 30, with some property qualifications, had been able to vote since the 1918 general election, but the 1929 vote was the first general election with universal suffrage for adults over 21, which was then the age of majority. Richard Sargood
Richard Sargood (31 July 1888 – 27 March 1979) was a British trade unionist and Labour Party politician. A long-serving local councillor in London, he sat in the House of Commons from 1945 to 1950. Early life and family Sargood was both in Lambeth, to a father also named Richard Sargood. He was educated at a London County Council school. In January 1919 he married Sarah Deane. Career Sargood became a trade union official, and was a councillor on Camberwell Borough Council from 1923 to 1929. He became Justice of the Peace (JP) for London in 1930, and was vice-chairman of the National Joint Council for Fire Services of England and Wales, and vice-chair of the Peckham Labour Party. He was a member of the London County Council from 1934 to 1965, representing Peckham, and served as vice-chair of the council from 1951 to 1952. William Harold Webbe
Sir William Harold Webbe, CBE DL (30 September 1885 – 22 April 1965) was a British politician. He was a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) from 1939 to 1959. Born in Solihull, Webbe was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham and Queens' College, Cambridge, which he attended from 1904 to 1907. During World War I, he worked at the Ministry of Munitions. He worked as a director of several companies. Webbe was a member of the London County Council from 1925 to 1949, representing Camberwell North West and then serving as an alderman, and he led the Municipal Reform Party on the council for 12 years.
