Ice Hockey At The 2012 Winter Youth Olympics
Ice hockey at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics was held at the Tyrolean Ice Arena in Innsbruck, Austria from 13 to 22 January. The difference between the Youth Olympic program for ice hockey and the Winter Olympics was the addition of a skill challenge for each gender. Medal summary Medal table Events Qualification system There were ten teams total (five per gender), with 17 players on each team. The host nation was allowed one team of each gender. The remaining eight teams were selected based on their joint Men’s and Women’s 2011 IIHF World Ranking. For the skills challenge, the host nation was allowed one competitor of each sex. For the remaining competitors, national competitions were held, and the qualifiers attended a Global Skills Challenge at the 2011 Hockey Development Camp in Vierumäki, Finland. Tyrolean Ice Arena
Tyrolean Ice Arena, also known as TIWAG Arena, is an indoor sporting arena located in Innsbruck, Austria. The arena originally had a capacity of 3,000 peopleolympiaworld.atTiroler Wasserkraft Arena/ref> and was opened in 2005 for the 2005 World Ice Hockey Championships. It is adjoined to the larger Olympiahalle which was inaugurated in 1963. The Olympiahalle was renovated for the ice hockey tournament at the same time as the new venue was built and are part of OlympiaWorld Innsbruck, a consortium that is responsible for maintaining venues that hosted both the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics. It is currently the home arena of HC TWK Innsbruck who play in the Austrian Hockey League. In the 2022/23 season, the arena was expanded to more than 3,500 seats for the team's home games. This capacity expansion was achieved through additional stands installed behind the north stand.
