The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, or Loyal Orange Institution of Scotland, Orange Order in Scotland, The Orange Order is the oldest and biggest Protestant fraternity in Scotland. The Loyal Orange Institution was an official participant in the 2014 independence referendum. Its headquarters are in Motherwell, having previously been in Bridgeton, Glasgow with 15,000 members in the Scottish Lowlands. The Orange Order was formed in Ulster in 1795 by Ulster Protestants, many of whom had Scottish roots. It was brought to Scotland in 1798 by soldiers returning from service in Ulster, and its membership was soon swelled by large numbers of Ulster Protestant immigrants. Ian Andrew Wilson is the Hansen Professor of Structural Biology and chair of the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, California, United States. Education He received his BSc in biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh in 1971, his PhD degree in molecular biophysics from Oxford University in 1976 under the guidance of David Chilton Phillips working on the structure of the triosephosphate isomerase. He then did postdoctoral research at Harvard University with Don Craig Wiley from 1977 to 1982 during which he solved the first crystal structure of the influenza virus hemagglutinin. Biography Wilson has a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, he has an M.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Linguistics (phonetics) from the University of British Columbia. He is professor at the University of Aizu in Aizuwakamatsu city, Fukushima prefecture, Japan. His field of research is phonetics, especially articulatory phonetics and articulatory setting. He is one of the first teacher/researchers to use ultrasound in a large-scale ESL classroom as a method of providing direct visual biofeedback to pronunciation learners on the movements of the tongue during speech. Early life and education Wilson was born to Captain Robert Adam Wilson ( British Army Dental Corps) and Mary Mowat Muir in Edinburgh. He was educated at Waverley School (Nottingham), Takapuna Primary School and Auckland Grammar School. With the help of several scholarships, he graduated at the University of Auckland as MA with First Class Honours in French in 1965, followed by a doctorate at Brasenose College, Oxford in French political philosophy in 1969.
