Ian Clyde Vermaak (28 March 1933 – 21 January 2025) was a tennis player competing for Union of South Africa, South Africa. Biography As the No. 4 seed he finished runner-up to Nicola Pietrangeli in the singles final of the French Open, French Championships at Stade Roland Garros, Roland-Garros in 1959 French Championships – Men's singles, 1959, after having reached earlier in the season the Hamburg International German Open, International German Tennis Championships final, losing to Billy Knight (tennis), William Knight. His best result at the Wimbledon Championships was in 1960 Wimbledon Championships, 1960 when he reached the fourth round in the singles event which he lost in five sets to Ramanathan Krishnan. Empangeni
Empangeni is a town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is approximately 157 kilometres north of Durban, in hilly countryside, overlooking a flat coastal plain and the major harbour town of Richards Bay 16 kilometres away. The N2 freeway runs east from Empangeni intersecting John Ross Highway (R34) which connects Empangeni and Richards Bay. Luis Alberto Ayala Salinas (18 September 1932 – 4 September 2024) was a Chilean tennis player who competed during the 1950s and 1960s. Amateur career Ayala was a two-time singles runner-up at the French Championships. In 1958, as the fifth seed, he reached the final after defeating the top-seeded and world No. 1 player, Ashley Cooper, in the semifinals. However, he was defeated in straight sets by Mervyn Rose in the final. In 1960, Ayala again reached the final, losing in five sets to Nicola Pietrangeli. He won the mixed doubles title at the 1956 French Championships with Thelma Coyne Long. Ayala secured the gold medal in singles at the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago, defeating Canadian player Robert Bédard in the final. Frederick Sydney Stolle, Order of Australia, AO (8 October 1938 – 5 March 2025) was an Australian amateur world No. 1 tennis player and commentator. He was born in Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia. He was the father of former Australian Davis Cup player Sandon Stolle. Career Stolle is notable for being the only male player in history to have lost his first five Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam singles finals, all but one were to Roy Emerson, the fifth of which he led by two sets to love. The Turkey Open originally known as the Turkey International Championships also known as the Istanbul International Championships is a defunct tennis tournament that was played on outdoor clay courts, Istanbul, Turkey.
