Ian Scanlon
John "Ian" Scanlon (13 July 1952) is a Scottish former professional footballer. During his playing career Scanlon represented East Stirlingshire, Aberdeen, St Mirren and English club Notts County. Career Scanlon moved from East Stirlingshire to Notts County for a fee of £10,000. In November 1974 he scored a hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday, taking 165 seconds from the first to the third goal, a club record. In 1977, after being dropped for a game against Carlisle United, Scanlon walked out on Notts County. After openly considering retirement from football, and making false claims to have inherited money, he joined Aberdeen. Scanlon won the Scottish Football League Premier Division with Aberdeen in 1979–80, before being sold to St Mirren in part exchange for Peter Weir. Birkenshaw, North Lanarkshire
Birkenshaw is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, to the east of Glasgow, and in proximity to Uddingston, Tannochside and Viewpark. Historically part of Lanarkshire Birkenshaw is largely a housing estate, but is more widely known for the Birkenshaw trading estate, popular with couples on weekends for its range of DIY, electrical and furniture stores. The Scottish Football League Premier Division was, from 1975 until 1998, the top division of the Scottish Football League and the entire Scottish football league system. 1979 Scottish League Cup Final (December)
The 1979–80 Scottish League Cup Final was played on 8 December 1979 and replayed on 12 December 1979. It was the final of the 34th Scottish League Cup competition, and it was a New Firm derby contested by Dundee United and Aberdeen. The first match ended in a goalless draw, but Dundee United won the replay 3–0 thanks to goals by Willie Pettigrew (2) and Paul Sturrock. United's victory earned them a place in the 1980–81 UEFA Cup competition. The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. First held in 1946–47, it is the oldest national League Cup in existence. The competition had a straight knockout format but became a group and knockout competition from 2016–17. 1985–86 Scottish Premier Division
Celtic won the 1985–86 Scottish Premier Division and became champions in one of the closest finishes in League history. On the final day of the season Hearts were leading Celtic by two points - a draw against Dundee would have been sufficient to see them win their first League title since the 1959–60 season. Hearts lost 2–0 to Dundee at Dens Park thanks to two late goals by substitute Albert Kidd, while Celtic beat St Mirren 5–0 at Love Street. As a result, Celtic won the league on goal difference. Relegation was suspended due to league reconstruction, therefore Motherwell and Clydebank retained their Premier Division status.
