Ian Martin (UN Official)
Ian Martin (born 10 August 1946) is an English human rights activist/advisor and sometime United Nations official. His most recent UN assignment was as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. From 2015 to 2018 he was Executive Director of Security Council Report. Early life Martin was educated at Brentwood School in Brentwood, Essex, and graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, with first class honours in history and economics. Afterwards, he was a graduate student in development economics at Harvard University for a year. From 1969 to 1972, Martin worked for the Ford Foundation in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. In 1971 while in Dhaka, East Pakistan, he witnessed the beginning of Bangladesh's War of Independence. Ian Martin (born 1953) is an English comedy writer. Martin was a writer for the BBC series ''The Thick of It''. He was hired in 2005 for Series 1 of the political satire by the show's creator, Armando Iannucci, in a role described as "swearing consultant", and later became a full member of the writing team. He won an Emmy for his writing across five series of ''Veep'' and was BAFTA nominated for co-writing ''The Death of Stalin''. Early life Martin was born in London and has lived in Lancaster since 1988, where half of his descendants now reside. Career Martin edits the satirical website martian.fm. He is a weekly columnist for the ''Architects' Journal'' and a regular contributor to ''The Guardian'' newspaper. Ian Martin (born 1951) is an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. Martin is a multi premiership winning player with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Career Martin was graded as a 16-year-old with Manly in 1967. He played nine seasons of first grade football with Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles between 1969 and 1974 and between 1976 and 1978. Martin holds the rare distinction of playing in six grand finals with Manly, winning four of them. His first was in the side that lost the 1970 Grand Final to Souths. Ian Martin (April 29, 1912 – July 25, 1981) was an American actor on Broadway, radio, and television and a writer. He appeared on television more than 700 times and on radio more than 15,000 times. Early years Born in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 29, 1912, Martin was the son of composer George Martin and English actress Violet Robertson. He acted in Scotland as a child before moving to the United States in 1928. Fieldston, the private school that he attended, had some classes taught in French and German, which helped him to pick up accents and dialects that he later used as an actor. After graduating from Harvard College, he became a radio actor, announcer, and writer. Career Martin's early experience on stage came in acting with stock theater companies.
