Ian MacLachlan Arrol
Ian MacLachlan Arrol (February 20, 1924 – June 16, 2000) was Member of Parliament for the federal riding of York East, elected as a Progressive Conservative in the Robert Stanfield-led resurgence of 1972. He was defeated in the Liberal sweep of 1974. Radio career Arrol was a radio announcer in Vancouver and Calgary in the 1940s and 1950s until graduating from University of British Columbia and teachers college, teaching in Vancouver in the early 1960s and for the Scarborough Board of Education (at Woburn Collegiate Institute) in the late 1960s and early 1970s.Obituary. York East (federal Electoral District)
York East was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada at different times. It was located in the province of Ontario. History The first federal riding of York East was created by the British North America Act 1867. Called the East Riding of York, it consisted of the Townships of Markham, Scarborough, the Village of Yorkville and the portion of the Township of York lying east of Yonge Street. In 1882, it was redefined to consist of the townships of East York, Scarborough and Markham, and the villages of Yorkville and Markham. The electoral district was abolished in 1903 when it was redistributed between Toronto North, York Centre and York South ridings. Steve Otto
Steven Otto (December 25, 1921 – January 16, 1989) was a Canadian politician. Born in Poland, Otto was a businessman and lawyer before being elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of York East in the 1962 federal election. David Collenette
David Michael Collenette, PC OOnt (born 24 June 1946) is a former Canadian politician. From 1974, until his retirement from politics in 2004, he was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. A graduate from York University's Glendon College in 1969, he subsequently received his MA, in 2004 and LL.D for education in 2015 from the same university. Robert Stanfield
Robert Lorne Stanfield (April 11, 1914 – December 16, 2003) was a Canadian politician who served as the 17th premier of Nova Scotia from 1956 to 1967 and the leader of the Official Opposition and leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada from 1967 to 1976. Born into an affluent Nova Scotia clothing manufacturing and political family in Truro, Stanfield graduated from Dalhousie University and Harvard Law School in the 1930s. He was a lawyer before becoming the leader of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party in 1948, with the goal of reviving the party that did not have a single seat in the legislature. 1948 Alberta General Election
The 1948 Alberta general election was held on August 17, 1948, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Ernest C. Manning led the Social Credit to a fourth term in government, increasing its share of the popular vote further above the 50% mark it had set in the 1944 election. It won the same number of seats — 51 of the 57 seats in the legislature — that it had won in the previous election. The remaining seats were won by the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation, the Liberal Party and independents. John Lyle Robinson (August 28, 1890 – October 29, 1953) was a Canadian politician who served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1935 until his death in 1953 sitting with the Social Credit caucus. He served in the government of Ernest Manning as Minister of Industries and Labour from 1948 until 1953.
