Ian Brown (sailor)
Ian Warwick Brown (born April 4, 1954) was an Australian sailor and coach who won the bronze medal for competitive sailing in the 1976 Olympics, 470 class. He was the youngest Australian to win an Olympic medal for sailing until 2008 when Elise Rechichi won the Gold medal. Competitive career Early Championships And Winning Skiff Moth Designs Ian's excellence began in 1968 when he won the Australian Championship, the Flying Ant class, at Perth. He was part of the Cherub class in 1969 as the 5th interdominion and won the world junior championship in Moth class in 1970. Later, at 18 years old, he won the World senior Moth Class Championship in 1972/3. Ian designed and built his own "Skiff Moth" designs. His win was the first-ever "Skiff Moth" to win a World Championship in the southern hemisphere, contested at Napier, New Zealand. Nathan James Outteridge (born 28 January 1986) is an Australian sailor, a resident of Lake Macquarie. Career highlights Olympics :2008 – Beijing Olympics 5th, 49er (with Ben Austin) :2012 – London Olympics 1st, 49er (with Iain Jensen ) :2016 – Rio Olympics 2nd, 49er (with Iain Jensen ) He is most famous for winning a gold medal at the London Olympics in the 49er class, along with Iain Jensen. At the Rio Olympics he won silver, again with Jensen in the 49er. He campaigned for the 2020 Olympics and qualified his country for the Nacra 17 class sailing with his sister Haylee gaining a 2nd place at the World Championships. Dragon (keelboat)
The Dragon is a one-design keelboat designed by Norwegian people, Norwegian Johan Anker in 1929. In 1948 the Dragon became an Olympics, Olympic Class, a status it retained until the Munich Olympics in 1972. The Dragon's long keel and elegant metre-boat lines remain unchanged, but today Dragons are constructed using the latest technology to make the boat durable and easy to maintain. Fiberglass, GRP construction was introduced in 1973 and the rigging has been regularly updated. The Dragon class is actively represented in over 26 countries on 5 continents. By 2004 there were 1,444 boats registered, and the number of boats built has averaged 45 per year. There are many more which are used for day sailing. Etchells
The International Etchells Class is one-design sailboat racing class, designed by American Skip Etchells. Production The first 36 boats were built by Skip Etchells and the Old Greenwich Boat Company between 1967 and 1969. In the early 1970s Skip Etchells finished hulls which were moulded for him by Tillotson-Pearson.
