Robert John Gurney Anderson (16 June 1925 – 11 January 2005), known as Ian Anderson, was a President of the Legislative Council (Isle of Man), President of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man. Sir Henry Charles Kerruish OBE LLD CP MLC (23 July 1917 – 2 August 2003) was a Manx politician who was the first President of Tynwald and, as Speaker of the House of Keys from 1962 to 1990, was the longest-serving Speaker in any Parliament in the Commonwealth. The Executive Council is the former title of the Council of Ministers, the principal executive body of the Isle of Man Government. Its chairman was the Lieutenant Governor until 1980, when he was replaced by a Chairman elected by Tynwald. The House of Keys () is the directly elected lower house of Tynwald, the parliament of the Isle of Man, the other branch being the Legislative Council. History The oldest known reference to the name is in a document of 1417, written in Latin by an English scholar, which refers to (the "Keys of Man") and (the "Keys of Law"). There is a dispute, however, over the origin of the name. The word ''keys'' is thought by some to be an English corruption of a form of the Norse verb ("to choose"). However, a more likely explanation is that it is a mishearing of the Manx-language term for "four and twenty": , the House having always had 24 members. David Anderson (Manx Politician)
David Moore Anderson (born 6 February 1954) is a former Member of the House of Keys (MHK) for Glenfaba. He also served in a number of ministerial posts on the Isle of Man and is therefore a former member of the Council of Ministers. Political career Anderson was elected as a Member of the House of Keys in 2001 for Glenfaba. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2011. He had previously served as a Commissioner for the parish of Patrick from 1992 until his election to the House of Keys. He was elected to the Legislative Council in 2015, for what was intended to be a five-year term, but he announced his early retirement in 2018. He was called to resign by protesters following his support of legislation which would have prohibited the advocacy of homosexuality in schools.
