I Like It (DeBarge Song)
"I Like It" is a R&B/soul song by American family band DeBarge. It was released in 1982 by Motown Records as the second single from their second studio album, '' All This Love'' (1982). Overview Recording After releasing their poorly-received self-titled album, the group quickly returned to the studio to record their second album. Choosing to add younger brother James and shortening their name to simply DeBarge, the group returned to Motown's recording studios determined to produce a hit. The song was musically composed by El DeBarge, who also produced the track with Iris Gordy, with lyrics provided by Randy, El and sister Bunny, who composed the much-copied bridge. While being interviewed for the TV documentary, '' Unsung'', in 2008, co-producer Iris Gordy told El to sing the final ad-libs "I like it, I like it", in a higher register. DeBarge
DeBarge was an American musical recording group composed of several members of the DeBarge family. In addition to various solo projects completed by members of the family, DeBarge was active between 1979 and 1989. The group originally consisted of El, Mark, Randy, and Bunny. James joined the group a year later for their 1982 second album. Bobby joined in 1987, following the departures of Bunny and El. DeBarge released six studio albums, four of them with Motown subsidiary Gordy Records. These albums included '' The DeBarges'' (1981), '' All This Love'' (1982), '' In a Special Way'' (1983), and '' Rhythm of the Night'' (1985). The latter became the group's best-selling album and contained the single " Rhythm of the Night", which hit No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it their highest-charting single in America. Jomanda was an American female house music vocal trio from New Jersey. Members included Joanne Thomas, Cheri Williams, and Renee Washington. Biography Jomanda had several hits on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart during the first half of the 1990s, including "Got a Love for You," which reached #1 in 1991. The song also crossed over to the mainstream, going top 40 (peaking at #40) on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual music awards ceremony which honors the best in African-American culture, music and entertainment. Chico DeBarge
Jonathan Arthur "Chico" DeBarge (born June 23, 1966) is an American R&B singer and musician. DeBarge was formally a member of the DeBarge family musical group DeBarge. As a solo artist, he scored a 1986 US Top Forty hit with the song "Talk to Me". Career He began a musical career of his own with Motown in the mid-1980s. His debut self-titled album was released in 1986 and featured the hit single "Talk To Me" (#21 US, #7 R&B). The album peaked at #90 on the Billboard 200 and released a follow-up single "The Girl Next Door" which charted on the R&B chart. Two years later, he released a second album with Motown, '' Kiss Serious'' that included the hit R&B single "Rainy Night" (#18 R&B) plus "I've Been Watching You" (#43 R&B) and the title track (#53 R&B). Jesse Powell (September 12, 1970 – September 13, 2022) was an American R&B and soul singer. Discovered by Louil Silas Jr., Powell was best known for his hit "You", which peaked at No. 2 on the R&B chart and No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Powell released four albums and was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara. Powell was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was a Grammy nominee.
