"I Got The..." is a song by British musician Labi Siffre, originally released in 1975 as the opening track on his album ''Remember My Song''. The song resurged in popularity in 1999 when it was sampled by American rapper Eminem on his breakthrough hit "My Name Is", leading to its release as a single in 2003. Composition and recording As with the other tracks on ''Remember My Song'', "I Got The..." was written by Siffre and produced by Big Jim Sullivan and Derek Lawrence. The recording featured session musicians Chas Hodges on guitar and Dave Peacock on bass guitar, who later became notable in their own right as Chas & Dave. Legacy Sampling In 1999, a bass and electric piano riff from "I Got The..." was sampled by the American rappers Eminem and Dr. Dre for Eminem's song "My Name Is", which became his breakthrough hit. Claudius Afolabi "Labi" Siffre ( , born 25 June 1945) is a British singer, songwriter and poet. Siffre released six albums from 1970 to 1975 and four from 1988 to 1998. His compositions include " It Must Be Love", which reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in 1971 (and was later covered by the band Madness), "Crying Laughing Loving Lying", and " (Something Inside) So Strong"—an anti-apartheid song inspired by a television documentary in which white soldiers in South Africa were filmed shooting at black civilians in the street—which hit number 4 on the UK chart. Alan Branscombe (4 June 1936 – 27 October 1986) was an English jazz pianist, vibraphonist, and alto saxophonist. Early life Branscombe was born in Wallasey, Cheshire (now Merseyside), in 1936. His father and grandfather were also professional musicians. He played drums with Victor Feldman in a talent show as a child. He began on alto sax at age six, and played in the army with Jeff Clyne in 1954–1956. Career Branscombe toured and recorded with Vic Ash in 1958, recorded with Tony Kinsey in 1959, and toured Japan with Stanley Black in 1960. He worked with John Dankworth as pianist and vibraphonist intermittently between 1960 and 1972, including in the 1963 film '' The Servant''. Ian Russell Wallace (29 September 1946 – 22 February 2007) was an English rock and jazz drummer, most visibly as a member of progressive rock band King Crimson, as a member of David Lindley's El Rayo-X and as Don Henley's drummer. Early years Wallace was born in Bury and educated at Bury Grammar School. He formed his first band, The Jaguars, at school, before going on to join The Warriors with Jon Anderson in his pre-Yes days.
