I Am (Toothgrinder Album)
''I Am'' is the third studio album by American metalcore band Toothgrinder. The album was released on October 11, 2019 through Spinefarm Records. Lyrical themes Opening track "The Silence of a Sleeping WASP" is a sequel to "The Shadow" from the band's previous album '' Phantom Amour''. Lyrically, the songs deal with Carl Jung's concept of the shadow and how it deals with addiction and alcoholism. The album's title track also deals with themes of addiction, along with depression, anxiety, and co-dependency, among others. Reception ''I Am'' polarized critics upon its release. Cryptic Rock gave the album a perfect score of 5/5, calling ''I Am'' the band's most complete work to date. ''Distorted Sound'' gave the album a highly positive review, praising the album's experimental but accessible sound along with Matthews's emotional lyrics. History Original members Wills Weller, Justin Matthews, Matt Arensdorf, Jason Goss, and Matt Mielke met during high school and informally formed the band after their graduation. Djent () is a subgenre of progressive metal characterised by its use of off-beat and complex rhythm patterns. Its distinctive sound is that of high-gain, distorted, palm-muted, down-tuned strings. The name "djent" is an onomatopoeia of this sound. Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed by singer Brent Smith in 2001 after the dissolution of Dreve, his previous band. Five Finger Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2005. The band originally consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Ivan Moody, rhythm guitarist Zoltan Bathory, lead guitarist Caleb Andrew Bingham, bassist Matt Snell, and drummer Jeremy Spencer. MetalSucks is a heavy metal music-themed news website. The site features reviews, interviews, information on latest metal releases and blog-like posts from the writers, most notably Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg.
