ISPS Handa Championship In Japan
The ISPS Handa Championship in Japan is a professional golf tournament held at PGM Ishioka Golf Club in Omitama, Japan. The tournament was created in 2022, originally intended to be a co-sanctioned European Tour and Japan Golf Tour event. It was to be the first ever European Tour sanctioned event to take place in Japan. However, in February 2022, it was announced that the event would proceed as a sole-sanctioned Japan Golf Tour event due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is intended that the tournament will return to the European Tour schedule in 2023. Due to the rescheduling, the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain was held the same week as a replacement event on the European Tour's 2022 schedule. Yuto Katsuragawa won the inaugural event, beating Rikuya Hoshino by one shot. The ISPS Handa Championship in Spain was a professional golf tournament that was held 21–24 April 2022 at Infinitum Golf in Tarragona, Spain. The 2022 European Tour, titled as the 2022 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, is the 51st season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 1st edition of the DP World Tour Rankings. The 2023 European Tour, titled as the 2023 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, is the 52nd season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. It is the second season of the tour under a title sponsorship agreement with DP World, that was announced in November 2021. In September 2022, the opening six events of the 2023 season were announced; they were all co-sanctioned events, four with the South Africa-based Sunshine Tour and two with the PGA Tour of Australasia, and were scheduled for late 2022. Aaron Cockerill
Aaron Cockerill (born 17 April 1992) is a Canadian professional golfer and European Tour player. He was runner-up at the 2022 Magical Kenya Open, as well as the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, losing in a playoff to Lucas Herbert. Amateur career Cockerill played golf at Stonewall Collegiate High School, where he was a four-time zone champion and served as team captain for three years. Rikuya Hoshino (星野陸也, ''Hoshino Rikuya'', born 12 May 1996) is a Japanese professional golfer. He has played full-time on the Japan Golf Tour since 2017 and has won six times on the tour. Professional career Hoshino turned professional in August 2016. In early 2017, he won the Novil Cup on the Japan Challenge Tour. Since 2017, Hoshino has played on the main Japan Golf Tour.
