IND Rockaway Line
The IND Rockaway Line is a rapid transit line of the IND Division of the New York City Subway, operating in Queens. It branches from the IND Fulton Street Line at Rockaway Boulevard, extending over the Jamaica Bay, into the Rockaways. At its southern end in the Rockaways, the line has two branches: one traveling east to Far Rockaway–Mott Avenue and one traveling west to Rockaway Park–Beach 116th Street. The train serves the line on the Far Rockaway branch, as well as on the section north of Hammels Wye (where the two branches merge). The Rockaway Park Shuttle runs between Broad Channel and Rockaway Park. Five rush hour A trains provide service between Rockaway Park and Manhattan in the peak direction. The line was built in 1880 as the New York, Woodhaven and Rockaway Railroad. Aqueduct Racetrack Station
The Aqueduct Racetrack station is a Metro station, station on the IND Rockaway Line of the New York City Subway. Located on the west side of Aqueduct Racetrack near Pitkin Avenue in the South Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens, it is served by northbound A (New York City Subway service), A trains at all times and by the northbound Rockaway Park Shuttle in the summertime on weekends during the day. The station contains four tracks, of which the outer two are in passenger service; the two center express tracks have been disconnected from the line and permanently removed. There is a single side platform next to the northbound local track. The station was built in 1959 to serve the racetrack and on racing days the station would be open with "Aqueduct Special" trains running nonstop from 42nd Street–Port Authority Bus Terminal (IND Eighth Avenue Line), 42nd Street. Rockaway Park–Beach 116th Street Station
The Rockaway Park–Beach 116th Street station is the western terminal station on the IND Rockaway Line of the New York City Subway, located on Beach 116th Street near Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Beach, Queens. It is served by the Rockaway Park Shuttle at all times and ten daily rush-hour only A trains. History The station was originally built in 1882 as a Long Island Rail Road station on the Rockaway Beach Branch, was called Rockaway Beach, and contained a trolley stop for the Ocean Electric Railway, which eventually expanded their line further west to Belle Harbor and Neponsit. In 1899, the station was enlarged in order to accommodate the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company cars, and the name was changed to Rockaway Park. The Broad Channel station is a station on the IND Rockaway Line of the New York City Subway, located in the neighborhood of the same name at Noel and West Roads in the borough of Queens. It is served by the A train and the Rockaway Park Shuttle at all times, the latter of which originates and terminates here except in the summertime on weekends during the day. The Beach 67th Street station (signed as Beach 67th Street–Arverne By The Sea) is a station on the IND Rockaway Line of the New York City Subway. Located at Beach 67th Street and Rockaway Freeway in Arverne, Queens, it is served by the A train at all times. The station is adjacent to Kohlreiter Square, a public green space on the north side of the station. History The station was originally built as Arverne for the Long Island Rail Road in 1888 at Gaston Avenue, by New York lawyer and developer Remington Vernam. The station and the development were named by his wife who admired the way he signed his checks. The station had a large tower, was shaped like a Victorian hotel and had a connection to the Ocean Electric Railway. The Beach 90th Street station (signed as the Beach 90th Street–Holland station) is a station on the IND Rockaway Line of the New York City Subway. Holland, one of the early developers of the area in which the station was located. Far Rockaway–Mott Avenue Station
The Far Rockaway–Mott Avenue station (announced as the Far Rockaway station) is the eastern terminal station of the New York City Subway's IND Rockaway Line. Originally a Long Island Rail Road station, it is currently the easternmost station in the New York City Subway. The A Eighth Avenue Express is a rapid transit service in the B Division (New York City Subway), B Division of the New York City Subway. Its route emblem, or "bullet", is colored since it is a part of the IND Eighth Avenue Line in Manhattan.
