NordicPhotos is a collection of seven Nordic image collections, Tiofoto, Mira, Greatshots, IMS, Siluet, Nordic and the royalty free collection, Simply North. Together it is one of the largest image collections of Nordic imagery, with over 5 million images and 300 photographers. History NordicPhotos was founded in 2000 by Arnaldur Gauti Johnson, Kjartan Dagbjartsson, Hreinn Ágústsson and Thor Ólafsson with funding from The Icelandic New Business Venture Fund. In 2003 the company started expanding and has for the past years, strengthened its foundation when acquiring some of the most well known and respected picture agencies in Sweden. Stock Photography
Stock photography is the supply of photographs that are often licensed for specific uses. The stock photo industry, which began to gain hold in the 1920s, has established models including traditional macrostock photography, midstock photography, and microstock photography. Conventional stock agencies charge from several hundred to several thousand US dollars per image, while microstock photography may sell for around US$0.25. Professional stock photographers traditionally place their images with one or more stock agencies on a contractual basis, while stock agencies may accept the high-quality photos of amateur photographers through online submission. Themes for stock photos are diverse, although Megan Garber of ''The Atlantic'' wrote in 2012 that "one of the more wacky/wondrous elements of stock photos is the manner in which, as a genre, they've developed a unifying editorial sensibility. Hans Hammarskiöld
Hans Arvid Hammarskiöld (17 May 1925 – 12 November 2012) was a Swedish professional photographer. He was active in most genres—for many years he worked as an industrial photographer, but was especially noted for his portraits. Career Hammarskiöld was born in 1925 in Stockholm. His breakthrough as a professional photographer came in the 1950s when he worked all over the world. In 1955 his work, along with that of his wife Caroline Hebbe, was selected by Edward Steichen for the world-touring Museum of Modern Art exhibition and book The Family of Man, seen by 9 million visitors. Hammarskiöld worked 1954-1956 for British ''Vogue (magazine), Vogue''. Hammarskiöld was the last surviving member of the group ''Tio fotografer'' (Ten Photographers), which formed in 1958 and was influential in Swedish photography for decades as the illustrations agency ''Tiofoto''. Inge Pål-Nils Nilsson (7 July 1929 – 25 May 2002), was a Swedish photographer and filmmaker active from the 1950s to the 1990s. Early life Pål-Nils Nilsson was the son of sculptor Robert Nilsson (1894–1984) and celebrated textile artist Barbro Nilsson (1899–1983). After their marriage in 1928 the couple went abroad on a three-year artist scholarship, living mainly in Rome, where their son Pål-Nils Nilsson was born in 1929. Back in Sweden, the family lived in Stockholm. Summers were spent in Lerberget in the south of Höganäs, Robert Nilsson's home region. Hans Henry Malmberg (20 September 1927 in Solna – 1 September 1977 in Vällingby) was a Swedish photojournalist. He was a member of the photographic collective Tio fotografer (Ten photographers). Early life and education Malmberg was born on 20 Sept 1927 in Solna, the son of Zewi Eleonora (née Andersson) and foreman Linus Eugen Malmberg. He studied photography at the apprenticeship and vocational school in Stockholm 1941–43, then was assistant at Pressfoto Per Meyerhöffer 1943–46 until he joined Sven Gillsäter at the Pressfoto-bildnytt picture agency 1947–48. Rune Hassner (13 August 1928 – 19 July 2003) was a Swedish photographer and film director. He directed around fifty documentaries and two feature films, including '' Myglaren,'' and illustrated numbers of books and articles with his photography. Photographer Early career Born to Elin Agata (née Nordin) and Johan Viktor Albin Hessner on 13 August in Östersund in central Sweden, Rune Hassner took up photography in 1942. Sven is a Scandinavian masculine first name. In Old Norse the meaning was "young man" or "servant" and the original Old Norse spelling was ''sveinn''. Variants such as '' Svend'' are found in Danish and Norwegian. Sten Didrik Bellander
The STEN (or Sten gun) is a British submachine gun chambered in 9×19mm which was used extensively by Commonwealth of Nations, British and Commonwealth forces throughout World War II and during the Korean War. The Sten paired a simple design with a low production cost, facilitating mass production to meet the demand for submachine guns. As well as equipping regular units, the Sten was distributed to resistance groups within occupied Europe. Its simple design made it an effective insurgency weapon for resistance groups. The Sten is a select fire, blowback-operated weapon with a side-mounted magazine. Sten is an acronym, derived from the names of the weapon's chief designers: Major Reginald V. Shepherd and Harold J. Turpin, and "En" for the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield factory.
