Simeon (e-mail Client)
Simeon was an IMAP4 email client by The Esys Corporation with support for IMSP and LDAP. Simeon was available for several platforms, including Windows (3.x, 95 and NT), Macintosh (both 68k and PowerPC), and multiple Unix variants. Although commended for its rich features as an early IMAP client, its difficult interface was regarded as more complex to use than POP based mail clients. Lack of advanced filtering of mail and inability to easily manage multiple mail accounts (Simeon requires editing of configuration files) were also criticized. In computing, the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is an Internet standard protocol used by email clients to retrieve email messages from a mail server over a TCP/IP connection. IMAP is defined by . IMAP was designed with the goal of permitting complete management of an email box by multiple email clients, therefore clients generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them. An IMAP server typically listens on port number 143. IMAP over SSL/TLS (IMAPS) is assigned the port number 993. SquirrelMail
SquirrelMail is a project that aims to provide both a web-based email client and a proxy server for the IMAP protocol. The latest stable version 1.4.23-svn is tested with PHP up to version 8.1 and replaces version 1.4.22 which can only run on PHP version 5.0-5.4. The svn part in the version name points out that bugfixes and minor improvements are no longer published as new versions, but instead are maintained within Apache Subversion version control system. History The webmail portion of the project was started by Nathan and Luke Ehresman in 1999 and is written in PHP. SquirrelMail can be employed in conjunction with a LAMP "stack", and any other operating systems that support PHP are supported as well.
