Republican Road II-53 () is a 2nd class road in Bulgaria, running in general direction northwest–southeast through the territory of Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Yambol and Burgas Provinces. With a length of 212.1 km, it is the third longest second class route in the country, after II-37 road and II-11 road. Route description The road starts at Km 90.9 of the first class I-5 road in the center of the village of Polikraishte in Veliko Tarnovo Province and heads southeast. It passes through the village of Parvomaytsi, crosses the river Yantra and southeast of the towns of Gorna Oryahovitsa and Lyaskovets forms a junction at Km 136.4 of the first class I-4 road. It then goes through the villages of Dragizhevo and Merdanya, enters of the valley of the river Veselina of the Yantra basin, passes through the village of Mindya and reaches the river Zlatarishka reka, a right tributary of the Veselina. Stara Reka (Yantra)
The Stara reka () is a 92 km-long river in northern Bulgaria, a right tributary of the river Yantra (river), Yantra, itself a right tributary of the Danube. It is the second largest tributary of the Yantra, after the Rositsa (river), Rositsa. The Stara reka takes its source under the name Golema reka at an altitude of 964 m, northeast of the Aglikina Polyana locality west of the Vratnik Pass (Bulgaria), Vratnik Pass in the Elena–Tvarditsa division of the Balkan Mountains. It initially flows in a deep forested valley, which widens until reaching the village of Maysko. Then, for more than 60 km between Maysko and Kesarevo the valley is deep and in places gorge-like, cutting through the Elena Heights to the west and the Lisa Mountain to the east. Elena ( ) is a Bulgarian town in the central Stara Planina mountain in Veliko Tarnovo Province, located 42 km (26 miles) southeast of Veliko Tarnovo. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Elena Municipality. The area is also a mountain resort, known for the typical local cuisine. Zlatarishka Reka
The Zlatarishka reka () is a 56.5 km-long river in northern Bulgaria, a right tributary of the Veselina, itself a right tributary of the river Stara reka of the Yantra. It is the largest tributary of the Veselina. The Zlatarishka reka takes its source under the name Zelenishka reka at an altitude of 1,315 m some 300 m north of the Chumerna refuge in the Elena–Tvarditsa division of the Balkan Mountains and flows in general direction north throughout its whole course. Until the village of Ruhovtsi it flows in a deep forested valley, which eventually widens as it runs through the eastern parts of the Elena Valley. It then bisects the Elena Heights in the 10 km long Boaza Gorge. Veselina (river)
The Veselina () is a 70 km-long river in northern Bulgaria, a left tributary of the Stara reka (Yantra), Stara reka, itself a right tributary of the river Yantra (river), Yantra of the Danube basin. It is the second largest tributary of the Stara reka, after the Golyama reka. Geography The Veselina takes its source at an altitude of 784 m southwest of the village of Drenta in the Elena–Tvarditsa division of the Balkan Mountains. It heads northeast until the village of Dobrevtsi, Veliko Tarnovo Province, Dobrevtsi and then flows north in a deep forested valley until reaching the Yovkovtsi, Yovkovtsi Reservoir. Merdanya is a village in Northern Bulgaria, in Lyaskovets Municipality, Veliko Tarnovo Province.
