Chimaeridae
The Chimaeridae, or short-nosed chimaeras, are a family (biology), family of cartilaginous fish. They resemble other Chimaeriformes, chimaeras in general form and habits, but have short, rounded snouts, without the modifications found in related families. Many species have long, tapering tails, giving them an alternative name of ratfish. Shortnose Chimaera, chimaeras have a venomous spine on their backs, which is sufficiently dangerous to injure humans. They are found in temperate and tropical marine waters worldwide. Most species are restricted to depths below , but a few, notably the spotted ratfish and rabbit fish, can locally be found at relatively shallow depths. They range from in maximum total length, depending on species. Species The species are grouped into two genera and include: Family Chimaeridae * Genus ''Chimaera (genus), Chimaera'' Carl Linnaeus, Linnaeus, 10th edition of Systema Naturae, 1758 (Eocene-Recent) ** ''Chimaera argiloba'' Peter R. Hydrolagus Colliei
The spotted ratfish (''Hydrolagus colliei'') is a chimaera found in the north-eastern Pacific Ocean. Often seen by divers at night in the Pacific Northwest, this cartilaginous fish gets its characteristic name from a pointed rat-like tail. The ratfish lays leathery egg case (Chondrichthyes), egg cases on the bottom of muddy or sandy areas, which are often mistaken by divers as something inanimate. While mainly a deep-water species, it occurs at shallower depths in the northern part of its range. The generic name, ''Hydrolagus'', comes from the Greek words ὕδωρ, meaning water,Liddell, H.G. & Scott, R. (1940). ''A Greek-English Lexicon. revised and augmented throughout by Sir Henry Stuart Jones. with the assistance of. Roderick McKenzie.'' Hydrolagus Alphus
The whitespot ghost shark (''Hydrolagus alphus'') is a chimaera species in the family Chimaeridae, which lives in parts of the Galápagos Islands in the southeast Pacific Ocean. It lives in waters with smooth slopes and tiny pebbles and grows to a total length of around . Discovery The whitespot ghost shark was first species description, described in 2006 by Kimberly Quaranta, Dominique Didier, Douglas Long, and David Ebert in ''Zootaxa''. The specific name (zoology), specific name, ''alphus'', is Latin and refers to the white spot on its skin. Because the species' habitat is too rough for trawls to operate in, the species has only been discovered using submersibles. Description According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), of the two specimens that were caught and examined, one, a female, had a body length of and a total length of , and the other, a male, had a body length of and a total length of . It has very wide distribution almost everywhere in Northern Atlantic The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world's five oceanic divisions, with an area of about . It covers approximately 17% of Earth's surface and about 24% of its water surface area. During the Age of Discovery, it was known for se ... at depths from 300 to 2,410 m, being most common below 1,000 m. Its total length ranges from 32 to 147 cm. It has a short nose with a blunt tip. The small mouth is located on the lower part of the head and has thick lips. Its back slopes gradually and ends in a fine tail. Rabbitfish were recently caught off of the coast of Greenland and were taken to do research on the various parasites in and on the fish. Nine parasites were recorded for the ''H. Affinis species''. The pale ghost fish (''Hydrolagus bemisi'') is a shortnose chimaera of the family (biology), family Chimaeridae. It is Endemism, endemic to South America waters. Taxonomy This species was first described by Dominique A. Didier in 2001. Although it had been recognised, the description of this species was regarded as being important because of the increase in the commercial fishing of chimaera. Description Estimations of growth and age have only been attempted for a quarter of the species known.Finucci, B, Cheok, J, Ebert, DA, Herman, K, Kyne, PM, Dulvy, NK. David A
David (; , "beloved one") was a king of ancient Israel and Judah and the third king of the United Monarchy, according to the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament. The Tel Dan stele, an Aramaic-inscribed stone erected by a king of Aram-Damascus in the late 9th/early 8th centuries BCE to commemorate a victory over two enemy kings, contains the phrase (), which is translated as " House of David" by most scholars. The Mesha Stele, erected by King Mesha of Moab in the 9th century BCE, may also refer to the "House of David", although this is disputed. According to Jewish works such as the '' Seder Olam Rabbah'', '' Seder Olam Zutta'', and '' Sefer ha-Qabbalah'' (all written over a thousand years later), David ascended the throne as the king of Judah in 885 BCE. Apart from this, all that is known of David comes from biblical literature, the historicity of which has been extensively challenged,Writing and Rewriting the Story of Solomon in Ancient Israel; by Isaac Kalimi; page 3 ...
