Hydra (association)
Hydra e. V. is a German self-help and advocacy group for prostitutes. The self- proclaimed "Hurenorganisation" (Whore organisation) is a non-profit association that was founded in 1980 by interested women as the first West German organisation of the Sex Workers' Rights Movement. The club name refers to the Hydra, a nine-headed sea monster in Greek and Roman mythology. Objectives Since 1985, Hydra has partially been funded with public funds, so that a permanent counselling centre in Berlin could be established. Among other things, it informs about health issues, in particular AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) is a multicultural festival in Kreuzberg, Berlin, celebrated annually since 1996 around Pentecost weekend. It is organised by the Werkstatt der Kulturen. The processions, theatre performances, and music events celebrate peace, tolerance, and multiculturalism. History The Werkstatt der Kulturen was founded in October 1993 in Neukölln, Berlin, patronised by the Berlin Senate. The first Karneval der Kulturen took place on 15 and 16 May 1996 around Ascension Thursday. It was inspired by other European carnivals such as the Notting Hill Carnival in London and the Zomercarnaval in Rotterdam. Alliance 90/The Greens (, ), often simply referred to as Greens (, ), is a Green (politics), green political party in Germany.
