Hybrasil
Hybrasil are an Irish underground music, underground electronica group that formed in the seaside town of Wicklow, Ireland in 2004. The band are named after Brasil (mythical island), Brasil, a phantom island featured in many Irish mythology, Irish myths. They have released two extended play, EP's to date and their debut album, ''The Monkey Pole'', was released in September, 2007. History Early Years (2004-2007) The group built a homemade recording studio and spent six months working on demo (music), demos which they would pass out to their friends. In 2005 they were selected to perform at the Irish Music Rights Organisation, IMRO Showcase, ''Bud Rising'' and the ''Hard Working Class Heroes'' Festival. A number of high-profile gigs also followed, supporting acts such as Republic Of Loose, Idlewild (band), Idlewild and The Chalets, whilst they also opened for legendary Liverpool act The La's, for their first gig in over a decade. ''Monkey Pole'' is the debut album of Wicklow based band Hybrasil. Wicklow
Wicklow ( ; , meaning 'church of the toothless one'; ) is the county town of County Wicklow in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is located on the east of Ireland, south of Dublin. According to the 2022 census of Ireland, 2022 census, it had a population of 12,957 people. The town is to the east of the M11 motorway (Ireland), M11 route between Dublin and Wexford. Tom Dunne
Thomas Dunne is an Irish radio broadcaster with Newstalk, and a singer/songwriter with the band Something Happens. Prior to joining Newstalk, Dunne worked on Today FM, presenting his "Pet Sounds" radio program, which began airing in 1999. Dunne left Today FM to join Newstalk in August 2008. Dunne's former slot on Today FM was taken over by various guest presenters and later by Paul McLoone, who had previously worked as a producer on "Pet Sounds", from September 2008. Early life Dunne graduated from University College, Dublin, with a degree in engineering, before becoming lead singer and songwriter for the band Something Happens from the 1980s until the mid-1990s. Radio career Dunne became involved in radio, initially presenting a nighttime contemporary Irish music show called Totally Irish on 98FM, taking over from Jim O'Neill. The La's
The La's were an English rock band from Liverpool, originally active from 1983 until 1992. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Lee Mavers, the group are best known for their hit single " There She Goes". The band was formed by Mike Badger in 1983 and Mavers joined the next year, although for most of the group's history, the frequently changing line-up revolved around the core duo of Lee Mavers (vocals, guitar) and John Power (bass, backing vocals) along with numerous other guitarists and drummers including Paul Hemmings, John "Timmo" Timson, Peter "Cammy" Cammell, Iain Templeton, John "Boo" Byrne, Chris Sharrock, and Neil Mavers. Dan Hegarty
Dan Hegarty is an Irish radio presenter employed by RTÉ. He presents his show ''The Alternative'' on RTÉ 2fm Monday to Thursday from 11pm–12am (the show is broadcast live each morning on RTÉ 2XM from 11am to 12pm). He is regularly dispatched to important musical events such as the Eurosonic Festival in The Netherlands, Electric Picnic and Oxegen for live broadcasting purposes, as well as being sent around the country to present the 2fm 2moro 2our. In 2008 Hegarty featured on the panel of judges for the Choice Music Prize and was sent to The Music Show to distribute advice. Early life Hegarty is originally from Sandymount, Dublin. Larry Gogan
Lorcan "Larry" Gogan (3 May 1934 – 7 January 2020) was an Irish broadcaster working for RTÉ. He was a disc jockey on RTÉ Gold having previously worked on RTÉ 2fm. His show was ''The Golden Hour'', during which he played old favourites and classic songs from yesteryear. Gogan spun the first disc on Radio 2, "Like Clockwork" by The Boomtown Rats. Louis Walsh described him as one of "the kings of Irish broadcasting". He was given the Industry Award at the 2007 Meteor Awards. Early life Lorcan Gogan was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1934. He had seven siblings. He grew up in Fairview, where his father ran a shop. Career Gogan started in radio in the 1960s after finishing school. He broadcast his first radio programme on RTÉ Radio 1. Today FM is an Irish commercial FM radio station, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio Ireland Limited. Broadcasting since 17 March 1997, it broadcasts mostly music, with a daily news and current affairs programme.
