Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region (), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid-Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality () is the largest municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Denmark. It was formed on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 administrative reform from the former municipalities of Egvad, Holmsland, Ringkøbing, Skjern, and Videbæk. Holmsland
Until 1 January 2007 Holmsland was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Ringkjøbing County on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 95 km2 on a narrow strip of land, Holmsland Dunes (''Holmsland Klit''), which is connected to the mainland on the north and south, and bounded on the east by Ringkøbing Fjord and on the west by the North Sea. It had a total population of 5,285 (2005). Its last mayor was Ivar Enevoldsen. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Hvide Sande ("White Sands"). Ringkøbing Fjord
Ringkøbing Fjord, despite its name, is in fact a shallow lagoon on the west coast of Jutland. Skjern River terminates in Ringkøbing Fjord with a large river delta system to the east, and the lagoon is shielded from the North Sea by a long isthmus named Holmsland Dunes to the west. On the Hvide Sande Canal in the middle of the isthmus, there is a floodgate that provides access to the sea to the west. The fjord is about 30 kilometers long and 2 to 3 meters deep with an area of almost 300 square kilometers (115 square miles). In the southwestern corner is the Tipperne peninsula, where there is a bird reservation. The town of Ringkøbing lies to the north-east. Ringkøbing Fjord was once affected by oxygen depletion, but today both plant and fish life abounds. Ringkjøbing County () is a former county ( Danish: '' amt'') on the Jutland peninsula in western Denmark. It had the lowest population density of all the Danish counties. Hvide Sande 2012
The Hvide clan (English: ''Whites'') was a medieval Danish clan, and afterwards in early modern era a Danish noble surname of presumably one surviving branch of leaders of that clan. Before the 16th century it was not used as a surname. It signified the color white. Medieval Hvide clan The Hvide were influential in the Danish island of Zealand, and occasionally in other close parts of the country, such as other Danish islands and Skåne. They had a stronghold in Jørlunde. A folktale of the clan name contrasts this clan against the "black" clan of Viking leaders of Skåne (that then belonged to Denmark but now belongs to Sweden) ("Svarte Skåning") who had Thor as their chief god. Henrik Have
Henrik Have (14 March 1946 – 12 September 2014) was a Danish visual artist and author. His father Helmer Andreas Have was a laborer and farm owner and his mother Carla Christine Bloch was also a laborer. In 1989, he married Anne Katrine Kokholm Nielsen. He died on 12 September 2014 at the age of 68 following an illness. He received a Danish Arts Foundation grant for life in 1990, and the Eckersberg Medal The Eckersberg Medal (originally the ''Akademiets Aarsmedaille'' or Annual Academy Medal) is an annual award of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. North Sea Beach Marathon
North Sea Beach Marathon is an annual Danish marathon which takes place at the westcoast of Jutland. It takes place in the beginning of July, every year. It is one of the only running events in the world where participants run the entire race on sand. Runners can choose to run the full 42.190 kilometres, or the half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km. Runners must train hard, because running on sand is very demanding on the human body. A difficult portion of the race is Hvide Sande, the sand here feels like deep snow. The timelimit for the marathon is 7 hours. The arrangers invited Lance Armstrong to participate in the 2007 event, but he decided to turn down the offer.
