Hurtigruten (company)
Hurtigruten is a Norwegian coastal ferry service and cruise line headquartered in Oslo, Norway. It is the larger of two companies currently operating ''Hurtigruten'', the coastal ferry service along the Norwegian coast from which it takes its name. The CEO is Hedda Felin. History Hurtigruten is the result of a merger between the previous operators of the Hurtigruten service, Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap (TFDS) and Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS). TFDS was founded in 1866, and OVDS was established in 1912 (ODS) and 1881 (VDS). The two companies merged in March 2006 to form Hurtigruten Group ASA, and twelve months later the merged entity assumed the name Hurtigruten ASA. Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab and the company founder, Richard With, pioneered the Norwegian Coastal Express in 1893, and Hurtigruten has continuously served the route since then. Hurtigruten
''Hurtigruten'' (), formally Kystruten Bergen-Kirkenes ("coastal route Bergen-Kirkenes"), is a Norwegian public coastal route transporting passengers that travel locally, regionally, and between the ports of call, and also cargo between ports north of Tromsø. Hurtigruten provides daily, year-round, and consistent traffic between Bergen and Kirkenes with 34 ports of call on northbound and 33 ports of call on southbound sailings. The Ministry of Transport and Communications in Norway has set minimum capacity requirements of 320 passengers, 120 berths, and cargo for 150 Euro-pallets. Stokmarknes
or is a town and the administrative centre of Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the northern coast of the island of Hadseløya and on the small, neighboring island of Børøya. The town has a population (2023) of 3,496 and a population density of . Norwegian Coastal Express Museum
The Norwegian Coastal Express Museum () is located at Richard Withs plass (Richard With Square) in Stokmarknes in Nordland county—a natural location because the Coastal Express was "born" here. The museum is operated by the Coastal Express Museum Association and it includes the former coastal express ship from the Vesterålen Steamship Company. The museum was officially opened by Transport Minister Kjell Opseth on July 2, 1993—the 100th anniversary of the first coastal express voyage. The museum then received its premises in the old administration building of the Vesterålen Steamship Company.
