Eibergen (Low Saxon: ''Eibarge'') is a town and former Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in Gelderland in the Eastern Netherlands. It is part of the Achterhoek cultural region. The administrative cooperation of about 20 municipalities in this region is the Regio Achterhoek. On 1 January 2005 the municipality of Eibergen merged with the neighbouring municipalities of Neede, Borculo and Ruurlo into the new municipality of Berkelland. As of 2021, the town had a population of 11,210. Berkelland () is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in the Netherlands province of Gelderland. It was created on 1 January 2005 from the merger of the former municipalities of Borculo, Eibergen, Neede, and Ruurlo. The new municipality was named after the Berkel, a small river. Anna "Annie" Johanna Geertruida Maria Borckink (born 17 October 1951) is a former speed skating, speed skater from the Netherlands, who represented her native country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, Lake Placid, United States. She won the gold medal in the women's 1500 metres event, with Dutch teammate Ria Visser winning the silver medal. For her performance, Borckink was named Dutch Sportsman of the year, Dutch Sportswoman of the year. After retiring from skating she runs a sporting goods store in Dronten. Avest (; Achterhoeks: ; also ''Aves'', ''Oves'') is a hamlet in the municipality of Berkelland in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. It is originally a hamlet that fell within the of Borculo, the Groenlo and the of Beltrum. In 1552, Rosier van Bronckhorst was named as of Eibergen, Neede, and Beltrum. From this voogdij, the municipality of Beltrum arose in the Batavian-French period, which was dissolved in 1819 and added to the municipality of Eibergen. Since January 1, 2005, Avest has been part of the municipality of Berkelland. The hamlet is located south of the Hupselse Beek. The Oude (Grolse) Beek runs through it. Part of the new regional industrial estate ''De Laarberg'' is located on land that once belonged to the of Avest. Rekken
Rekken is a village in the Dutch municipality of Berkelland. It lies in the most northeast corner of the province of Gelderland, about half a mile from the German border. The river Berkel enters The Netherlands east of Rekken. Rekken is also known in international aviation, by the VHF omnidirectional range called 'Rekken' (RKN). In the 12th century Rekken is known in documents as part of the Parish Eibergen. Later it was allowed by the Bishopric of Münster to form an independent parish. The ''Rekkenaren'' built a Catholic Church on the northern bank of the Berkel. Around 1616 the ''heerlijkheid'' Borculo, (until then an autonomous area, where Rekken was a part of) became a property of the duke of Guelders, and with that to the former Dutch Republic. World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament
The World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament (WPIST) is an international futsal tournament for police officers since 1982. This contest takes place every year in Eibergen, Groenlo and Zieuwent in the Netherlands. Those cities are near the border with Germany. In the early 1980s the Eibergen Police department took the initiative to have a tournament with their German colleagues, to improve their cooperation. The tournament grew to be a European, and later a worldwide event. In this moment it is the greatest police indoor soccer tournament in the world. The 2023 (41st) tournament will be held in Groenlo in the Netherlands.
