Huntsville Rewound
Huntsville Rewound is an ongoing non-profit project to collect memories from the Huntsville, Alabama, USA TV market. It is a website and Facebook page covering the northern Alabama area along with Tennessee border counties. The website was set up in September 2009 following the response from the Facebook page (which started in July 2009 as Tennessee Valley Rewound) and the Birmingham Rewound site. Lance George is the webmaster and site curator. The Facebook site has over 12,700 members (4/3/23). The Facebook page is interactive and allows users to upload pictures and give comments. Features appear on the Huntsville Rewound website quarterly on topics of regional interest. Portions of the Huntsville Rewound and Atlanta Rewound websites actually are derived from the "Lance George Personal Website" which started compilation in July 1996 and hosts family heirlooms and collectibles dating back to the early 20th century. Huntsville, Alabama
Huntsville is a city in Madison County, Limestone County, and Morgan County, Alabama, United States. It is the county seat of Madison County. Located in the Appalachian region of northern Alabama, Huntsville is the most populous city in the state. Huntsville was founded within the Mississippi Territory in 1805 and became an incorporated town in 1811. When Alabama was admitted as a state in 1819, Huntsville was designated for a year as the first capital, before that was moved to more central settlements. The city developed across nearby hills north of the Tennessee River, adding textile mills in the late nineteenth century. Its major growth has taken place since World War II. Birmingham Rewound
Birmingham Rewound is an ongoing non-profit website to collect memories from the Birmingham, Alabama area. The site was set up in January 2005 following the response from the Birmingham area. Russell Wells is the webmaster and Tim Hollis assists with local data and historical information. Tim Hollis has written several books on the Birmingham area and Southeast Culture. Monthly features appear on the Birmingham Rewound website on various topics of local interest and local newspaper articles and memories. The site has over 10,000 hits a month from around the world. The Alabama Broadcasters Association has also linked to this site as being an excellent database of Huntsville Metro TV/radio information. The site was set up in May 2010 following the response from the Facebook page, in addition to the Birmingham Rewound and Huntsville Rewound sites. Lance George is the webmaster and site curator. The Birmingham Rewound website mentions the pictures, videos, and Facebook integration that they have. The Georgia Radio Museum and Hall of Fame have also linked to this site as being an excellent database of Atlanta Metro TV/radio information. Space City USA
Space City USA was a planned theme park near Huntsville, Alabama. Located adjacent to Lady Ann Lake between Huntsville and Decatur, Alabama, Decatur, the $5 million (at the time) project was planned starting in 1959 as "Time World". Construction began in 1963 but the project was abandoned three years later, before the park could be opened. (The park property is now inside the Madison, Alabama, Madison and Huntsville city limits.) Memorial Parkway (Huntsville)
Memorial Parkway, also known as the Parkway, is a major thoroughfare in Huntsville, Alabama that carries over 100,000 vehicles on average a day. It, in whole or in part, follows U.S. Route 231, U.S. Route 431, U.S. Route 72, and State Route 53 through the Huntsville city limits. It is a limited access road through most of Huntsville city proper, providing exits to the frontage road which allows access to road intersections, as well as businesses and residences along the route. The First National Bank is a historic bank building in Huntsville, Alabama. The temple-form Greek Revival structure was built in 1835–1836. Designed by locally famous architect George Steele, it occupies a prominent position, facing the courthouse square and sitting on a bluff directly above the Big Spring. It was the longest-serving bank building in Alabama, operating until 2010 when Regions Bank moved their downtown branch to a new location. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The Keller was an automobile produced by the Keller Motors Corporation of Huntsville, Alabama, United States, between 1947 and 1950. It was based on the earlier Bobbi-Kar produced by the Bobbi Motor Car Corp. of San Diego, California. Keller Motors restyled the Bobbi-Kar and switched power from a four-cylinder to Hercules engines of and . A great deal of the franchise money was spent on development of John Liefeld's original Bobbi-Kar design. (Liefeld was a 32-year-old former Chrysler engineer who'd spent the war years at Convair.)
