Hundstein (Salzburg Slate Alps)
The Hundstein, also High Hundstein, is a 2,117m mountain in Zell am See, in the Pinzgau region of Austria. It is the highest peak of the Salzburg Slate Alps and belongs to the subgroup of the Dienten Mountains. The mountain is located east of Lake Zell and opposite the end of the Fusch Valley and the Großglockner High Alpine Road in the Salzach Valley. As a group, the Hundstein, along with its neighbouring peaks Hochkasern (2,017m), Schwalbenwand (2,011m) and Gschwandtnerberg (1,612m), occupy the entire eastern half of the Dienten mountains. The Salzburg Slate Alps (german: Salzburger Schieferalpen) are a mountain range of the Eastern Alps, in the Austrian state of Salzburg (state), Salzburg. Situated within the greywacke zone, they could be regarded either as part of the Northern Limestone Alps or of the Central Eastern Alps. Geography The range is located between the Kitzbühel Alps (Tyrolean Slate Alps), the continuation of the greywacke zone beyond Lake Zell and Saalach river in the west, and the Hoher Dachstein, Dachstein massif in the east. Lake Zell
Lake Zell (german: Zeller See; it, Lago di Zell) is a small freshwater lake in the Austrian Alps. It takes its name from the city of Zell am See, which is located on a small delta protruding into the lake. The lake is long and wide. It is up to 73 metres deep and at an elevation of 750 metres above sea level. The lake is fed by numerous small mountain streams in summer, but only one stream flows out of it into the Salzach. In winter the lake completely freezes and is used for winter sports. In summer the lake is used for pleasure boating (boats powered by combustion engines are not allowed except for the ferries that cross the width of the lake from Zell to Thumersbach, so electrically powered boats can be rented instead). The water is very clear and suitable for swimming or diving, but can be chilly. Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße is a municipality, at the foot of Grossglockner mountain, in the district of Zell am See (Pinzgau region), in the state of Salzburg in Austria. Großglockner High Alpine Road
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road (in German ''Großglockner Hochalpenstraße'') is the highest surfaced mountain pass road in Austria. It connects Bruck in the state of Salzburg with Heiligenblut in Carinthia via Fuscher Törl at 2,428 m (7,966 ft) and Hochtor Pass at . The road is named after the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain. Built as a scenic route, a toll is assessed for passage.
