Etobicoke
Etobicoke (, ) is an administrative district and former city within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Comprising the city's west end, Etobicoke is bordered on the south by Lake Ontario, on the east by the Humber River (Ontario), Humber River, on the west by Etobicoke Creek, the cities of Brampton, and Mississauga, the Toronto Pearson International Airport (a small portion of the airport extends into Etobicoke), and on the north by the city of Vaughan at Steeles Avenue, Steeles Avenue West. Mimico Creek
Mimico Creek is a stream that flows through Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is long, is in the Great Lakes Basin, and is a tributary of Lake Ontario. The creek's name is derived from the community of Mimico, which is from the Ojibwe language, Ojibwe word ''omiimiikaa'' meaning "abundant with wild pigeons" (cf. 19th century Mississaugas ''omiimii'', "pigeon"). Lake Shore Boulevard
Lake Shore Boulevard (often incorrectly compounded as Lakeshore Boulevard) is a major arterial road running along more than half of the Lake Ontario waterfront in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Prior to 1998, two segments of Lake Shore Boulevard (from the Etobicoke–Mississauga boundary to the Humber River and from Leslie Street to Woodbine Avenue) were designated as part of Highway 2, with the highway following the Gardiner Expressway between these two sections. Lake Shore Boulevard's western terminus is Etobicoke Creek, the western boundary of Toronto. Humber Bay
Humber Bay is a bay of Lake Ontario south of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located between Ontario Place on the east and Mimico Creek to the west. The bay gives its name to Etobicoke's Humber Bay neighbourhood. History Prior to 1809 the bay was lined with a sandy beach with forest inland. The area remained natural until later in the 19th century when it became developed with boathouses and various roadhouses and hotels. In 1802 a ferry service to cross Humber River was established by Richard Wilson. In 1882 ferry service, Humber River Ferry Company Limited was started from the Humber to Toronto by a consortium of hotel owners (Charles Nurse, John Duck and Octavius Hicks). This service ceased operations in 1886, but later ferry operations by other operators continued into the 1890s to Bathurst Street and York Street. John Black Aird
John Black Aird (May 5, 1923 – May 6, 1995) was a Canadian lawyer, corporate director, and political figure. He served in the Senate of Canada from 1964 to 1974, and he was Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1980 to 1985. Life and career Aird was born in Toronto, Ontario, and was the grandson of Sir John Aird, a prominent Canadian banker. He was educated at Upper Canada College, Trinity College and Osgoode Hall Law School. Aird was a Brother at the Toronto Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi.
