Human Right Concern Eritrea, also known as Human Rights Concern–Eritrea (HRCE or HRC–E), is an Eritrean human rights organisation based in the United Kingdom and founded by Elsa Chyrum. Creation Elsa Chyrum founded Human Right Concern Eritrea in 2009 or earlier. Leadership , Chyrum remains the director of HRCE. Actions HRCE has been used as a source by the British Home Office since 2013 for its 2011 documentation of miners' work conditions in Eritrea and the situations of Eritrean refugees in Libya during the First Libyan Civil War. In 2015, Chyrum, as director of HRCE, stated that British authorities had started refusing political asylum to Eritrean refugees on the grounds that they were insufficiently politically active in Eritrea to be at risk of persecution in Eritrea. Sheraro
Sheraro (), also spelt Shiraro, is a town and separate woreda in Tigray, Ethiopia. It is located in the North Western Zone of the Tigray Region, at an elevation of 1246 meters above sea level. It is the administrative center of Tahtay Adiyabo. It is near the border with Eritrea. Between January 1995 and June 1998, SUR Construction built two road segments connecting Shiraro with Shire to the east and Humera to the west, totalling in length 139.5 kilometers. Hitsats Massacre
The Hitsats massacre was a massacre at Hitsats refugee camp on or around 19 November 2020 during the Tigray War. The civilians killed were 300 Eritrean refugees, according to Europe External Programme with Africa (EEPA), and five humanitarian workers, according to ''The New York Times'', Associated Press, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Massacre Eritrean Defence Force (EDF) soldiers arrived in Hitsats refugee camp on 19 November 2020. Tigray People's Liberation Front
The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF; ti, ህዝባዊ ወያነ ሓርነት ትግራይ, lit=Popular Struggle for the Freedom of Tigray), also called the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, is a left-wing ethnic nationalist paramilitary group, a banned political party, and the former ruling party of Ethiopia. A refugee camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees and people in refugee-like situations. Refugee camps usually accommodate displaced people who have fled their home country, but camps are also made for internally displaced people. Elsa Chyrum
Elizabeth Chyrum, known as Elsa Chyrum, is an Eritrean human rights activist based in the United Kingdom. Childhood and education Elizabeth Chyrum was born in the United Kingdom (UK). Eritrean human rights activism Chyrum became active in defending Eritrean human rights when 70,000 Eritreans and Ethiopians of Eritrean origin were deported to Eritrea during the Eritrean–Ethiopian War that started in 1998. She and other Eritreans in Europe created the Network of Eritrean Professionals in Europe in response.
